Santa Cruz County Takes Monumental Step Toward Becoming a No-Kill Community

On Tuesday, January 21st, the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors made history by passing a resolution to establish Santa Cruz County as a no-kill community.

This transformative decision aims to save all healthy and treatable dogs and cats entering the Santa Cruz County Animal Care and Control shelter.

The resolution outlines three key goals:
• No-Kill Policy: Achieve and maintain a benchmark “save rate” of 90% for shelter animals.
• Community Commitment: Foster a safe, humane, and compassionate culture where animals are valued and cared for.
• Resource Allocation: Provide the necessary resources, including improved facilities and supportive programming, to ensure the initiative’s success.
