It's the day we have a love-hate relationship with; Daylight Savings Time officially ends today, so make sure you turn your clocks back an hour.

With less daylight (and therefore more time to sleep), this also makes it a good time to check your smoke and CO detector batteries if you didn't earlier this year when we "sprung ahead."

September is National Preparedness Month! Started by FEMA in 2004, is encourages Americans to be prepared for emergencies and disasters that can occur at home, at work, and in their community. The unpredictability of severe storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding (all of which we are very familiar with), means emergency preparedness is important for everyone.

🚨🚒 Thursday Night Training 🚒🚨

Thus week’s training was led by Dr. Nackley with the assistance of . Airway and respiratory emergencies were the focus here, as our firefighters reviewed the various protocols to follow during airway calls and the equipment carried as well.

At 0908, your Nokomis firefighters were dispatched to Maple Street for a house reportedly smoking. While en route, units were notified that the house was fully involved with all residents and pets outside.

Upon arrival, Nokomis and Venice units began an aggressive fire attack, and search to confirm that everyone was out of the house. A second alarm was struck due to the severe humidity for additional personnel. The fire was confirmed extinguished at 1251. The Red Cross was in contact with family on scene as units were breaking down.

Incidents such as these require quick thinking and thoroughness; we want to sync our mutual aid partners from , , , and for their assistance this morning!
