Welcome to the new school year

The new school year is upon us! We will start posting Class rosters at the NES main entrance after Monday, August 10th. 1st - 5th grade students' first day is Monday, August 17th which will be an early release day. Wednesday, August 19th will also be an early release day.

Kindergarten students' first day will be Monday, August 24th. Kindergarten teachers will be reaching out to families during the first two weeks of school to schedule and conduct some brief beginning-of-year assessments.

PS Enrollment Forms for the 2026-2027 School Year release update.

The New Student form release is delayed due to proper field delivery. The SY26-27 New Student Enrollment form (and Kindergarten Kickoff) will release NLT 01AUG26.

The SY26-27 Returning Student Enrollment form released on 25JUL26. All Parents / Guardians were sent SSO or Snapcode emails or a letter was generated to direct mail for the enrollment process.

My name is Corey Shepherd, and I am honored to serve as Principal of Nome Elementary School. I bring more than a decade of experience in elementary education and school leadership in rural Alaska, having previously served as both an elementary teacher and principal in Kotzebue.

As principal, two of my highest priorities are ensuring a safe and orderly learning environment for all students and providing strong literacy instruction that helps every child become a confident reader. As I begin my work at Nome Elementary, I look forward to partnering with students, families, staff, and the broader community.

The SY26-27 New Student Enrollment form (and Kindergarten Kickoff) should release on or around 15July2026.
