CALL FOR PROPOSALS
DEADLINE: MAY 1, 2026

The Board of Game (BOG) is accepting proposals for changes in hunting and trapping regulations for Game Management Units 18, 22, 23, and 26A until May 1, 2026, at 11:59 pm.

Any individual or group may bring their concerns to their local Advisory Committee (AC) or submit a proposal to the Board of Game for a change to hunting or trapping regulations. You may also submit written comments to the Board on proposed changes and sign up to present public testimony at a Board of Game meeting.

Regional Coordinators support the Board of Game process by organizing and administering elections and meetings for Advisory Committees and can also help with submitting a proposal. Sam Kirby is the Regional Coordinator for the Western Arctic Region which includes Units 22, 23, and 26A. The Regional Coordinator for the Western Region including Unit 18 is Savannah Hollingsworth

Virtual Winter Wildlife Series Presentation
Living and Recreating in Bear Country
April 9, 2026 at 7 pm

Wilson Puryear will discuss what to consider and how to prepare for living and recreating safely in bear country. Wilson is a Fish and Wildlife Technician for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s Lands and Refuges Program. During the school year, he presents bear safety information to thousands of Alaskan students. In the summer, Wilson works as a field technician at McNeil River State Game Sanctuary.

Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) biologists will be conducting winter survival surveys for caribou and moose abundance in the North Slope area from April 3-10, 2026.

These surveys are important for monitoring and population trends.

GMU 23 Caribou Hunters Reminder

Both State of Alaska and federal hunting regulations prohibit the
harvest of caribou cows during calving season. The season for hunting caribou cows (except north of and including the Singoalik River drainage) is closed from April 1st thru August 31st.

The Kotzebue Sound Fish and Game Advisory Committee (AC) will hold a public meeting on Monday March 23rd at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held at Selawik Wildlife Refuge Conference Room located at 160 2nd Ave. and by Zoom/Teleconference.

Creating proposals for submission to the Alaska Board of Game will be the main focus of this AC meeting.
