UPDATE-SERVICE DISRUPTION FOR SEWER SERVICE IN NOOKSACK
Many of you have been asking questions in regard to the notice of the disruption of sewer service due to the inundation of the Everson Wastewater Treatment plant. We also have questions and unfortunately, we are a little short on answers right now. Everson Public Works is still in the midst of dealing with the major flood incident and dealing with those issues. Once that settles down a bit, we will meet with Wastewater Treatment officials and discuss the option and timelines

What we do know now:
• Exercise restraint in using the sewer system. No showers, avoid flushing for as long as possible and be cognizant that use of the sewer system may cause backflow into your residence. THIS DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR WATER SUPPLY LINES, all though your sink drains do flow to the sewer. The water is safe to drink at this point.
• Initial estimates are that it may take as long as two days to get the sewer system back up and functioning normally. We have to wait for the water to drain from the pump station wells and then the treatment plant will need to clean the system.
• We don’t know if this will affect just West Nooksack, or all of Nooksack including the east side.
• Once the water clears from some of the areas, we will get porta potties stationed throughout the city

That’s what we know for now and we will keep you posted with what we learn in the near future.
