On Tuesday night, we had the honor of finalizing the dedication of our Central Station to the memory of Chief Robert Loupe Sr.

Chief Loupe served the Norco community for over 40 years, with 27 of those years as Fire Chief. His dedication to his community, family, and peers is the foundation on which the Norco Area Vol. Fire Dept was built and continues to strive for daily. We are forever grateful for the leadership values and knowledge that Chief Loupe instilled in many of us as we grew, not only as firefighters but, as men in our community.

A special thank you to his wife Mrs. Faye, son Robert Jr., daughter Lisa, and many others of the Loupe family for sharing in this special event.

This past Tuesday, members from St. Charles Parish EMS and Norco Area Volunteer Fire Department were able to reunite with a patient that was rescued from a house fire. In December of 2021, a 911 call was received in reference to a mobile home on fire. Members from the fire department, St. Charles Parish Hospital EMS, and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded promoptly to the call. Upon the arrival of the fire department, the residence was found to be engulfed in flames. The family of Mr. Chucky and bystanders stated that someone was still inside the structure. The brave firemen of NAVFD, Blake Estevez and Michael Wright, rushed into the mobile home, located a subject that was unresponsive, and removed him from the structure in critical condition. The patient was met outside by Paramedic Kevin Gauthier and EMT Shane Dawson who had Mr. Chucky placed on the EMS stretcher and was rushed to the ambulance where EMS professionals were able to begin treatments and life saving interventions, including airway management and treatment of burns. EMS urgently transported the patient to University Medical Center, a regional Burn Center located in New Orleans with the assistance of Medical Officer, Natalie Wright of the Norco Area Volunteer Fire Department onboard to assist with patient care. After months of treatment and rehabilitation, Mr. Chucky was able to make a full recovery and able to share his story with other burn victims. Mr. Chucky’s story is a tear jerker for sure but, filled with love and happiness. His story is a true testament to the dedication of the men and women of our team members with St. Charles Parish EMS and the fire service in St. Charles Parish. Incidents like this are the reason we value our training and education programs. St. Charles Parish Hospital EMS trains on a regular basis with many fire departments throughout our parish along with members of the burn team at UMC. Our collaborative efforts of training together and having a great working relationship is what makes our duties of protecting the public such a success.
