Last night marked a defining moment in our continued commitment to students as we unanimously approved an equity-centered budget designed to expand opportunity, strengthen outcomes, and invest where the need is greatest.

Key investments include:
🔑 Transportation support to extend the instructional day and expand learning opportunities for students
🔑 Launch of innovative strategies and strategic pilots to accelerate student achievement
🔑 Differentiated pay strategies designed to strengthen teacher retention and support educators in more challenging work environments

I am deeply appreciative of my fellow board members for remaining focused on what matters most: students. Together, we used data to guide our decisions and aligned our investments with our core beliefs and commitments around equity, excellence, and opportunity.

Budgets are moral documents. They reflect priorities, values, and vision. I am proud that this budget demonstrates our commitment to removing barriers, supporting educators, and creating the conditions for every student to thrive.

The work continues, but last night represented meaningful progress worth celebrating.

Today marks an exciting step forward for children and families in Gwinnett County.

I am proud to celebrate the partnership between Gwinnett County Public Schools and Gwinnett County Government to launch the Joyful Learning Academy in Snellville — an investment that will help close the early learning gap and expand access to high-quality preschool opportunities for our youngest learners.

This new early learning center will provide free learning opportunities for 3- and 4-year-old children, including support for students with additional learning needs, helping ensure more children enter kindergarten ready to learn, grow, and thrive.

As Vice Chair of the Gwinnett County Public Schools Board of Education, I am grateful for the leadership and collaboration that made this possible. When schools, local government, and the community work together with a shared vision, we create stronger outcomes for students and brighter futures for families.

A strong start matters — and the Joyful Learning Academy is another example of Gwinnett’s commitment to educational excellence for every child.

If for some reason you haven’t voted yet (life happens), this upcoming Tuesday, May 19th, is your last chance‼️

As a parent of two students in Gwinnett schools, I am committed to making decisions that equip all students to reach their full potential. No matter where you live in the district, your child should experience a welcoming school environment and have access to varied opportunities to succeed.

A vote for me is a vote for excellence across all GCPS schools!

For the past 20 years, I have served in public education as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, literacy coordinator, and statewide administrator. I'm leading with Teachers, Learners, and Community in mind! Elect Dr. Adrienne Simmons.
