We are pleased to award this quarter’s FORCECOM Civilian of the Quarter to Mr. Mark Cockerham, Training Specialist at our Performance Technology Center.

Mark originally comes to us from Louisiana. He and his wife Susan are high-school sweethearts married now for 32 years. They have 2 adult children, Seth and Brittany, and are excited to be new grandparents to Silas and Emma.

Mark gave 24 active-duty years to the Coast Guard, climbing the enlisted ranks from E-1 to Chief, receiving a commission, and ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant. Mark is the first in his family to receive a college degree and credits the Coast Guard’s Advanced Education Program in that successful pursuit.
He’s proud to call himself a Permanent Cutterman, earned through more than a decade of sea duty supporting a wide range of Coast Guard missions.

At the PTC, Mark specifically works on identifying performance problems, their root causes, and the appropriate solutions. Some of his recent work includes critical analysis efforts that help ensure we attract the best and brightest officers to the Coast Guard (PCTS Analysis), and that we continue to emphasize and promote leadership and diversity at all levels in our service (LDAC Chair Analysis).

Mark says he’s passionate about finding solutions that support the deckplate sailors so they can perform safer and more efficient. He said “The Coast Guard attracts some of the nation’s best talent, and so we owe them the best performance support.” He’s committed to expanding his total understanding of the science behind performance support and finds reward in knowing his efforts will continue long after he is gone.

Bravo Zulu to you and your family Mark! Thank you for your amazing devotion to duty and dedicated service!

In the spotlight this week is our U.S. Coast Guard Force Readiness Command Civilian of the Quarter, Mr. Mark Pearson.

Originally from New York, Mr. Pearson has been married 31 years and has three adult children. He enjoys a good game of baseball, and a good long run. In-fact, he knocked out two ultra-marathons this year at a cost, he said, of only two toe nails.

With 30 years of active-duty service, Mr. Pearson is better known to many as Command Master Chief Pearson, having retired as the PAC Area CMC in 2018. He has since supported the FORCECOM mission as an Instructional Systems Specialist at the Performance Technology Center.

He participates in the rapid task analyses of critical focus areas, most recently including Catastrophic Incident Search and Rescue and Leadership Diversity Advisory Council efforts. He serves as a lead analyst for the current Enlisted Technical Work Force Analysis effort, and he leads a small team that measures product effectiveness.

“There is nothing better than contributing to our member’s success and providing them with the tools and training they need to do their jobs.”
-Mark Pearson, FORCECOM Civilian of the Quarter

Bravo Zulu!
