This week, we officially recognized the Mighty Bison sailors who promoted in rank. Congratulations to all! 🎉
Continued training excellence for the Mighty Bison of VRM-40.
VRM-40 recently conducted flight operations on the flight deck of Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75).
We’re grateful for the hardworking individuals who made this evolution a success!
The Mighty Bison of VRM-40 conducted the first of many Change of Command ceremonies with the passing of the torch from CDR Matthew Boyce to CDR Mason Fox, who served as Executive Officer before assuming command of the squadron.
VRM-40 first aircraft arrived in NAVSTA Norfolk in early April as they make their permanent transition from North Island, CA as primary Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission and Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD) Squadron for multiple Air Wings and Aircraft Carriers on the east coast.

Please welcome BISON41 to our newest home at KNGU NAVSTA NORFOLK! Squadron welcomed our first aircraft on April 5, 2024. Huge thanks to maintenance, aircrew, admin, and everyone in between that assisted in getting our first bird safe on deck in Norfolk!
Last Friday, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of our establishment. Along with a cake-cutting ceremony, we reflected on our past accomplishments and looked ahead to our future as a squadron.
As we work towards obtaining our SFFOC, there is much to do, but this event helped put into perspective all of the hard work that has been done to get us to this point.
Quarters are often used to recognize and give awards to sailors for exceptional work during their time at our squadron. These photos cover various dates that we have held quarters to recognize these achievements. Congratulations to everyone on their exceptional work!
Advancing in the Navy is an important accomplishment for any sailor! These photos cover various dates for our advancing sailors. Congratulations to everyone who got promoted!
This February we celebrated Black History Month with two special events. The first event was LCDR Frantz “Apollo” Bien-Aime speaking at the NIWC Black History Month celebration with SECNAV on the 15th of February, 2023.
The second was our squadron celebration which happened on the 28th of February, 2023. We had three speakers, LCDR Bien-Aime, AT2 Tucker, and AM2 Carl, who spoke on their experiences and presented on prominent African American figures throughout history. We concluded the event with food and a cake-cutting ceremony!
During the 2nd week of January, aircraft 40 received its tail flash. A big shout out to all of the painters who helped put this together; it looks awesome!
On the 22nd of December, 2022, aircraft 40 had its first flight with VRM-40. This flight was piloted by two of our own: our CO CDR Boyce and LCDR Bien-Aime. We also had one of our aircrewmen on board AWF2 Nagi!
On the 8th of December, 2022, VRM-40 had our first-ever holiday party! This was a great event set up by our MWR team including cookie decoration, prizes, and a corn hole competition! Let's hope for many more great events like this in the years to come!
As a newly established squadron, VRM-40 did not have an aircraft to begin with. This changed on the 7th of December, 2022! These photos highlight its successful arrival.
A huge milestone for the Mighty Bison!
These next two days we will be wrapping up our timeline of VRM-40. Here we have the first-ever Navy Tilt Rotor Ball for the VRM community! This event is to allow for award presentations and build comradery for our platform.
The Tilt Ball was held on the 10th of November, 2022.
At the heart of any aviation squadron are the maintainers. On November 22nd, 2022, we got an opportunity to follow them on a job to remove a blade from one of the aircraft. Procedures like these can take up to four hours and lots of training to complete.
On top of their maintenance jobs, we also saw them in action, guiding an aircraft in for shutdown. This qualification is known as plane captain, which all maintainers work towards. These evolutions take tremendous coordination with the pilots and aircrew, allowing for safer and more efficient shutdowns and startups of the aircraft. A special sign language is spoken between pilots and plane captains to achieve this success. A great showing from the Mighty Bison maintenance team!
Today we are highlighting LCDR Rockot's retirement ceremony. This was a great showing from the Mighty Bison to honor one of our own.
LCDR Rockot had his sendoff on the 28th of October, 2022.
Good morning Mighty Bison Family! Recently we have been collecting photos to document major events that have happened here at VRM-40. We will be posting throughout the next couple of weeks until all of our major events have been shown!
Today we're highlighting our establishment ceremony which took place on March 24th, 2022.
