Today marks the 55-year anniversary of the line of duty death of Sergeant Robert Bouchard, who served 18 years with the Norfolk Police Department and died in the line of duty on Sept. 3, 1971.

Sergeant Bouchard was shot and killed by a robbery suspect while he was conducting surveillance near the intersection of West Princess Anne Road and Colonial Avenue.

Sergeant Bouchard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the Special Services Unit at the time of his death.

We pause today to reflect on his sacrifice and reaffirm that his name, his service, and his story will always be remembered.
