🚨 Hazardous Materials Training Exercise 🚨

The Norfolk Fire Division recently conducted a hazardous materials training exercise to strengthen response skills and coordination with our partner agencies.

Thank you to Pierce Fire and Rescue, Hadar Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Norfolk Nebraska Police Division, Madison County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska, and the City of Norfolk Streets Division for their participation and support.

Training together ensures we are prepared to respond safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

UPDATE:

Our bunkroom remodel continues to progress. A few things we wanted to highlight. This remodel is not just your ordinary remodel. We have a few additions that are aimed at improving the health of our firefighters.

Do you have a temperature preference when you sleep? What if you had little to no control? Would your quality of sleep be affected? Likely so! What are we doing about it? Each of our rooms has its own HVAC unit, allowing for personal temperature control. With already limited sleep, we need to make it as comfortable as possible so the sleep our firefighters get counts. In these pictures, you will see the new units. Adequate sleep is proven to have positive effects on many aspects of health. We want the healthiest firefighters we can get, which is why we want them to sleep well when they are able.

When you wake up in the middle of the night, do you turn on all the lights in your house? Do you like waking up to bright light? For some, this may be yes; however, studies have found this is not a healthy way to wake up. We are updating our nighttime alert lighting to red lights. As referenced in this article https://www.fireapparatusmagazine.com/the-fire-station/the-station-articles/developments-in-lighting-alerting-in-station-bunk-rooms-battle-issue-of-sleep-deprivation/, red lights are a much healthier alternative.

As you follow our progress on this remodel, we wanted to highlight some of the less noticeable yet very important changes we are making! We are getting close to moving in, and we are excited about it!

Good morning everyone. Please be extra cautious the next several days as weather conditions are becoming dry and dangerous. If you did have burn piles over the past few weeks, we encourage you to make sure they are covered and/or buried in a hole. Thank you and stay safe!

Wildfire concerns will be on the increase this afternoon. Gusty winds up to 35 mph behind a cold front will combine with above-normal temperatures, dry fuels, and low relative humidity. Even stronger winds gusting up to 45 mph will support increased fire danger on Thursday also.
