In 1991, then-President George H. W. Bush, himself a World War II naval aviator, spoke at Pearl Harbor on the 50th anniversary of the Japanese attack and the strength of American and allied resolve. The lessons of that day in 1941, and the message delivered by the President in 1991, remind of of the importance of our mission at CSG-4, and our commitment to work each day as if it is the last day of peace.

Michael Langbehn, and Commodore, Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic Capt. Peter Shoemaker.

Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training is one of our five lines of operation at CSG-4 in our effort to mentor, train, and assess carrier strike groups, amphibious ready groups, and independent deployers for global combat. We are proud of the work our team is doing to support development and delivery of LVC training to the Fleet.

Anchor up! Last weekend, chief petty officers from Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 4, Commander, Carrier Strike Group Eight (CCSG-8) (USS Harry S. Truman CSG), Destroyer Squadron 28, and Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command refaced the press box for one of the ball fields at Fleet Little League Park in City of Norfolk Government. Leaders at the forefront of the deliberate development of tactical proficiency across all of the Navy’s warfighting communities recently met at the Advanced Warfighting Summit (AWS) led by NWDC at Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC).

The AWS highlights the importance of Fleet Response Training Plan (FRTP) alignment - one of CSG-4’s lines of effort - and provides an opportunity to incorporate Fleet feedback to develop integrated warfighting teams that deter aggression, maintain freedom of the seas, and support U.S. interests worldwide.

ICYMI: USS Carney was in the news earlier this week for intercepting land attack cruise missiles as announced by the Pentagon, and the Secretary of Defense ordered the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) Carrier Strike Group (Carrier Strike Group Two) to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility (announcement in post ⬇️).

These force posture decisions and the performance of the crew of Carney underscore the Navy’s value to national security and international stability, and the importance of CSG-4's mission to prepare and deliberately develop integrated warfighting teams for worldwide assignment.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III released a statement regarding recent escalations by Iran and its proxy forces across the Middle East region.

Today begins our observance of Su***de Prevention Month. This year's theme is "Address the Stress: Building a Community of Knowledge and Resilience."

Every su***de is a tragedy that has long-lasting effects on families and communities. The Department of the Navy is not exempt from the impact of this public health challenge. Su***des are preventable with timely, evidence-based interventions. It is imperative that we create a protective environment throughout the DON to prevent isolation and reduce both suicidal ideations and behaviors.

I encourage Sailors, Marines, and civilians at all levels to join me in dedicating this month to promoting open dialogue and destigmatizing mental health challenges and help-seeking behavior.

“The amount of preparedness that the crew had going into this event, the resiliency that they showed bouncing from the events on Sunday during the rescue, bouncing right into the events on Monday like nothing happened – I will contend to anybody that I have the best crew in the Navy,” said Cmdr. Joe Hamilton, commanding officer of USS Porter.

“They performed flawlessly, were able to turn these guys over to the Coast Guard; worked hand-in-hand with the Coast Guard. We are America’s team and I think this crew is the best America has to offer.”
