SCAM ALERT: It has come to our attention some have been receiving calls from individuals selling Medicare Advantage plans claiming to be from “Senior Services”. Our benefits counseling services are free to older adults aged 60+. If you ever receive a call and are unsure if it is from Senior Seniors, please hang up and call us at 757-461-9481.

❗PLEASE SHARE & HELP SPREAD THE WORD❗
We have received a number of reports for scam calls over the past few days. In many cases, the caller is posing as a family member, bank, authority figure, law enforcement officer, lawyer, or some other "official entity."
The caller then prompts the targeted party to produce money to help in a fabricated "emergency" situation. For example, the scammer may pretend to be a child or grandchild calling from jail in need of bond money. The "emergency situation" creates a sense of urgency for the targeted party and often causes them to think less clearly about the circumstances of the call before acting.
If the targeted party falls for the scam, they are prompted to withdraw and/or transfer a large sum of money to "fix" the problem that has been described to them.
In many cases, the money is withdrawn as cash and becomes much harder to trace once it's been exchanged.
In all cases, it's extremely important that the recipient of any type of call, email, or text verify the source. In the case where the caller claims to be a family member - it's important to call the family member or their parent on a known phone number to fact check the claim before proceeding with any kind of transaction. Additionally, any official entity, such as a bank will never request money over the phone. If there's ANY question of the legitimacy of a call, email or text - VERIFY and trust your gut.
Economic crimes like these can be prevented! Please share with your loved ones, neighbors, and friends to be on alert for this kind of scam.

We want to congratulate Rose & Womble Realty Co on celebrating its 30th Annual Thanksgiving Basket Brigade! This year the foundation donated to Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia 70 turkeys and sides which included, potatoes, apples, stuffing, gravy, cranberry, vegetables, and rolls. The 70 baskets and turkeys were delivered to clients and caregivers in all the areas we serve. Thank you to our staff and volunteers who helped assembled the bags to be delivered.

The Chesapeake Fire Department is offering FREE in-home safety checks for older adults where they will assess and fix (grab bars, toilet risers, smoke detectors, etc.) issues. Also, they will provide Durable medical equipment (walkers, wheelchairs, ramps, etc.) to uninsured or underinsured adults in Chesapeake.

We have partnered with The Neighborhood Harvest to bring fresh meals, fruits, and vegetables to our home-delivered meal clients! Each fresh meal produce box contains enough for up to 5 meals, equaling 2500 meals a week being delivered to up to 500 clients.
