This week the NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Navy Food Management Team (NFMT) held a Food Service Management (FSM) Seminar. FSM Financial Analyst Sophia Stringfield (center in red) taught this class, that is designed to provide provides food service personnel with the basic understanding in the performance of all record keeping responsibilities relating to the daily function of a food service operation. FSM provides detailed data to collect, store, report food item information, process receipts, generate inventories, recipes, menus and other food service related data required. She was joined by Director, NFMT CWO4 Jeffrey Walker (left) in congratulating the class earlier today.

NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Commanding Officer Capt. Julie Treanor was joined by Executive Officer Cmdr. Timothy Freeman, Executive Director Cynthia Brown and Command Master Chief CMDCM Jorge Reyes-Veles at an awards ceremony recognizing the outstanding Sailors and civilians at the command. Click on each photo to see what these superstars did in support of the command and our mission partners. Also recognized but not pictured were Chandra Handley, Code 200 and LS1 Terrell Wright, Code 400. Hanley received a Department of the Navy Civilian Service Achievement Award for processing and executing a $1.5 million contract for the independent third party assessment of the operations and system integrity of the Red Hill Underground Fuel Storage Facility.
Wright was recognized as the NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Senior Sailor of the Quarter, first quarter fiscal year 2022. As Saratoga Financial LPO, he expertly managed a $121,000 OPTAR budget for Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit with 100 percent accountability. He also oversaw 25 processed MILSTRIP requests valued at $10,000 and eight GCPC purchases totaling $7,000 with zero discrepancies.

NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Commanding Officer Capt. Julie Treanor and Naval Reserve NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Commanding Officer Capt. Patrice Higgins hosted NAVSUP Deputy Commander, Rear Adm. Alan Reyes last Friday and Saturday at Naval Station Norfolk. During his visit, Reyes discussed active and reserve integration efforts, along with reserve Sailor readiness to support our mission partners. Additionally, he observed reserve Sailors at work at Advanced Traceability and Control. The visit culminated on Saturday with a town hall meeting with Mid-Atlantic Region Supply Corps officers and logisticians, where he frocked Sailors and observed the 227th birthday of the U.S Navy Supply Corps.

Wide Advancement Seminar at W-143 onboard Naval Station Norfolk.

In this seminar; culinary specialists are provided training material for
their upcoming advancement exams. Areas covered during this seminar included
culinary math, food production, wardroom, sanitation, and safety. Additionally, they learn financial accountability, forms, inventory management, and administration. The students will be able to utilize this training for their advancement exam and daily operations at their commands.

Earlier this afternoon NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Commanding Officer Capt. Julie Treanor was joined by several members of the team for a cake cutting to commemorate the birthday of the U.S. Navy Supply Corps. This anniversary marks the date in 1795 when President George Washington named Tench Francis the first purveyor of public supplies. 227 years later, the Navy Supply Corps continues to be “Ready for Sea,” carrying on that legacy.

NAVSUP FLC Norfolk RRAM Program Brings Value to the Fleet

Earlier today, the NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Fuels Department hosted the Defense Logistics Agency-Energy Deputy Commander David Kless for a visit to the Craney Island Bulk Fuel Terminal. Kless was given a brief of the operation as well as a tour of the facility.

Craney Island has the highest throughput of any defense fuel support point in the Department of Defense. Last year they provided 278 million gallons of fuel to our mission partners.

IN THE NEWS: The logistics support representatives of NAVSUP FLC Norfolk ensure ships have what they need prior to getting underway, allowing shipboard Sailors to focus on their primary mission. Earlier this month they supported the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) Amphibious Ready Group. STATION IN THE SPOTLIGHT: NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Code 501 Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Division. NAVSUP FLC Norfolk is the only FLC that performs the Modified Service Life Extension Program (MOD SLEP) for MHE. They currently have three contractor mechanics who overhaul 20-30 units per year. The contractors take MHE from ships and overhaul the units so they look and function like new. They currently have 6,000 pound capacity EE pallet trucks diesel and 4,500 pound capacity reach and tier forklifts in various stages of work. They also service and provide maintenance for 163 units for 20 shore commands throughout the Tidewater/Hampton Roads Area on a reimbursable basis. They work on all types of Material Handling Equipment (gas, diesel, propane, duel fuel and electric) and shipboard mobile service equipment (pressure washers, scissor lifts, man-lifts and flight deck scrubbers). A typical aircraft carrier has a full allowance of 54 MHE units.

NAVSUP FLC Norfolk hosted three Saudi Arabian officers last week as part of a supply internship training program with the U.S. Navy. This program is designed to expose Royal Saudi Naval Forces to the logistics practices of the U.S. Navy and has been supported by NAVSUP since its inception in 2007. While at NAVSUP FLC Norfolk, they trained in several areas to include the Logistics Support Center, HAZMAT, aviation support and postal operations. The three Saudi officers are seen here with Executive Officer Cmdr. Timothy Freeman.

NAVSUP IN THE NEWS: Logistics Support Representatives from NAVSUP FLC Norfolk ensured the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group had the supplies they needed when they departed Naval Station Norfolk for a deployment earlier this month. NAVSUP IN PHOTOS: The NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center, Norfolk Navy Food Management Team held a three day baking seminar this week. In this class, students learn the different sciences associated with scratch baking, including measuring, mixing, proofing and baking. They use combination and convection ovens, proofers and commercial grade mixers, producing delicious results.

The Navy Supply Corps School conducts a Supply Officer Basic Qualification Course for officers from allied nations and NAVSUP FLC Norfolk is one of the stops on a series of visits to familiarize them with the Navy.
