Topic: Annual Training (AT) for NATs!

This message is for all NATs who arrived or will arrive at the NOSC. Most of you may be temporarily assigned to the Operational Support Units (OSU’s) before joining the CNIFR Community. If you’re directed to participate in AT, contact an IW Chief, and ask them how to enroll in NAVIFORES Enlisted Professional Development program (EPDP).

The EPDP courses are designed to develop the skills and mindset necessary to prepare Navy Reserve personnel for the duties and responsibilities required in the Information Warfare Community.

At the conclusion of the courses, students will have the tools necessary to increase their value within their respective units by establishing accountability to supervisors and providing mentorship to junior personnel. These courses lay the foundational knowledge essential to be a more effective Reserve Sailor.

05/22/2019

What is NAT? The New Accession Training (NAT) Program is a Reserve program for non-prior service enlisted Sailors who attend recruit training, "A" School, and in some cases, follow-on "C" School before serving in the Reserves. After training, Sailors will be transferred to, in most cases a NOSC closest to their home of record for release from Active Duty and assignment into a Reserve unit.

The ultimate goal is to ensure you feel comfortable transitioning into the Navy Reserves, and apply for a job in a NIFR unit that’s productive and assists in your professional development.

Chief Petty Officer

Happy Birthday Chief Petty Officers! I am proud and honored everyday to serve in your company!

The earliest known use of the term “Chief Petty Officer” dates back to 1776 onboard Continental Navy Ship Alfred, when the title “chief cook” was conferred upon Cook’s Mate Jacob Wasbie. This was an informal designation that noted Wasbie as the foremost ship’s cook, but was not officially recognized nor consistently used throughout the Navy.

The Chief Petty Officer, as recognized today, was officially established 1 April 1893, when the rank “petty officer first class” was shifted to “chief petty officer.” This originally encompassed nine ratings (occupational specialties): chief master-at-arms, chief boatswain’s mate, chief quartermaster, chief gunner’s mate, chief machinist, chief carpenter’s mate, chief yeoman, apothecary, and band master.

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and, given
all the recent news on data breeches and hacking, this is a good
time to focus on the persistent cyber threats and challenges facing
the Navy. It's important to focus on what each of us can do to keep
our shipmates and operations secure.

A single intrusion can have far-reaching impacts across the fleet. Adhering to cybersecurity policies,
directives, and best practices is Commanders' business and requires
an all hands approach to protect the Navy.

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. This is the world that Navy Cyber Warfare Engineering (CWE) Officers work to control and protect. Interested in learning more about cyber warfare? http://bit.ly/HhJ82e
