In Virginia, there are currently over 5,000 children in foster care. That’s 5,000 children and families in need of community.

Most are in care because of neglect, and often, that neglect is tied to poverty. With the right support, many of these children could remain safely with their families, avoiding the trauma of removal.

This is the generational cycle we talk about: when a young woman ages out of foster care without support, 70% will experience a crisis pregnancy. Their children, in turn, are at a much higher risk of entering foster care. The cycle continues. Unless we step in.

But there is hope. More than 60,000 children in Virginia are being raised in kinship homes. Kinship care is one of the strongest protective factors against this cycle. When children are placed with kin, they are far more likely to find stability and permanency.

Every child deserves a safe, permanent home. Every family deserves a caring community. We can prevent unnecessary foster care entries by supporting vulnerable families—and we can strengthen kinship families who have already stepped in to love and care for children.

Join us in breaking the cycle. Your church, your small group, even your family can make a difference. Sometimes something as simple as diapers, meals, or encouragement can change the story. Message us today to learn how.
