You may have heard/ felt a loud boom across the region tonight. Norfolk is safe — the sound did not originate in or near our community. Current reports suggest it may have been a meteor creating a sonic boom, but that has not been definitively confirmed. Norfolk PD is monitoring the situation.

Residents from New Hampshire down to Rhode Island heard a loud boom, some even reporting their entire house shaking.

NORFOLK — Chief James Barrett reports that members of the Norfolk Police Department, working in coordination with federal and regional partners, executed a search warrant on Monday morning following a months-long investigation into suspected narcotics activity.

On May 4, Norfolk Police Detectives, along with agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration New Bedford Resident Office, Federal Task Force Officers from several nearby municipalities, Detectives from the Plainville Police Department, and an Ashland Police K9 Officer, executed multiple court-authorized search warrants in town.

Police recovered a significant quantity of suspected narcotics, rifles and handguns from the home at 70 Mirror Lake Ave.

As a result of the investigation, VANNAKONE KASOMANY and JENNIFER THIBODEAU were arrested. They face charges related to narcotics offenses and items recovered during the warrant ex*****on.

"This was a significant seizure of illegal drugs and fi****ms," said Chief Barrett. "Removing these substances and weapons from the community improves safety for our residents and our officers. Smaller communities are not insulated from this type of activity, which is why our detectives work closely with regional and federal partners to identify and stop it. We appreciate the collaborative effort among all agencies that made this operation possible."

KASOMANY and THIBODEAU will be arraigned Tuesday in Wrentham District Court.

The investigation remains ongoing.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

On Friday, May 1st, Norfolk School Resource Officer Katie Appel had the pleasure of giving two very special students, Cole and Mackenzie, a one-of-a-kind ride to school!

This unforgettable experience was made possible through the SAFE Coalition Gala Auction, where this unique opportunity was won and brought to life. Cole and Mackenzie arrived to school in style!

Thank you to the SAFE Coalition for supporting positive community connections and helping create moments like this for our youth. And a big shoutout to Officer Appel for continuing to build strong relationships with our students every day!

🚁 Training Alert: Norwood PD Takes to the Skies! 🚁

This evening (after 7pm), the Norwood Police Drone Unit, in coordination with the Norfolk Police Department, will be conducting specialized drone training at the Feeman Kennedy School.

📢 IMPORTANT: Please be aware that this is a scheduled training exercise only and not an active public safety operation or emergency.

Public Welcome to Observe!
The community is more than welcome to come by and observe the training. It’s a great opportunity to see how this technology works and how Norwood officers utilize it to keep communities safe.

How Drones Save Lives:
Police drones are much more than high-tech cameras—they are critical life-saving tools used for:
🔹 Search & Rescue: Quickly locating missing persons in terrain that is difficult or dangerous to reach on foot.
🔹 Overwatch: Providing a strategic "bird’s eye view" in crisis situations to ensure the safety of both the public and our officers.
🔹 Advanced Technology: Using thermal and night-vision capabilities to "see" in total darkness, identifying people and hazards ground crews might miss.

The Power of Partnership:
Norfolk and Norwood are proud members of the METROLEC (Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council) community. This regional partnership means that we share resources and expertise—if Norfolk ever needs specialized drone support during a real-world incident, the Norwood Drone Unit will be there to support us!

We look forward to seeing some of you at the fields tonight! 👋
