Norfolk CASA

Norfolk CASA These volunteer advocates are court ordered by judges to investigate and report to the courts third party, child-centered facts and observations.

To support & promote court appointed volunteer advocacy so that every abused and neglected child can be safe from harm, establish permanency, and have the opportunity to thrive. A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a well-trained, well-vetted community member who volunteers to be the voice for a child who is involved in the court system due to abuse and neglect. Court Appointed Special Adv

ocates meet with children monthly, investigate how their time in care is unfolding, and submit reports and attend hearings to update the judge hearing the case. Through all of this, our advocates center the child, giving space, time, and hope to those who need it most.

According to Foster Virginia, as of 10/1/2025 there were 4,849 children in foster care in Virginia, with 1,254 living in kinship foster placements and 3,595 living in non-relative foster homes. On this last weekend of Foster Care Awareness Month, we want to express our gratitude to all foster families, for your role in providing a safe, stable, and supportive home and for shining a light of kindness for children coming from dark and challenging circumstances. Thank you! πŸ«ΆπŸ»πŸ’™

Last Thursday our advocates had the opportunity to meet with Kayla Caine and Tracey Morris with Shineforth Child & Family Services, to discuss how their program supports adoptive and kinship families caring for children in our community. πŸ’› We're so grateful for the work their team does in supporting the counseling, peer-support, educational, respite, and crisis management needs of children and families and for Virginia’s new Kinship Guardianship Assistance Program (KinGAP), allowing children the opportunity to stay with family whenever possible. Thank you Kayla and Tracey for all you do and for taking the time to share with our Norfolk CASA volunteers about the resources and support available to the kids we serve! πŸŽ‰πŸ«ΆπŸΌ
