We had a full house last week when we welcomed aboard new crew members. Thanks to our HR, Safety, and Operations departments who helped make this orientation a success.
There's a saying, about being in the right place at the right time. That’s what happened last Thursday in Elkton, VA. Richard Marteney III and Joseph Shifflett were driving along a backroad while evaluating a new project site. They suddenly heard someone call for help, and stopped to investigate.
Just up a driveaway, they observed an elderly resident on the ground. The pair helped him up to regain stability and remained until he was more composed. This quick action likely prevented a more serious scenario, with temperatures in the 40's and several other vehicles passing right by, according to the resident.
Thank you Richard, and Joseph, for your Good Samaritan action, and demonstrating such positive character in the community.

Ever wonder what would happen if trees touch power lines? This is one reason why Line Clearance & Tree Trimming is very important. According to the FERC: "Why Tree Trimming is Necessary" - Tree contact with transmission lines is a leading cause of electric power outages and a common cause of past regional blackouts, including the August 2003 blackout that affected 50 million people in the Northeast United States and Canada. - Following the 2003 blackout and subsequent federal legislation, the Commission designated the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) as the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO), with the responsibility to develop and enforce standards to ensure the reliability of the Bulk Power System, including the Reliability Standard that addresses vegetation management covering tree trimming on rights-of-way, FAC-003-2. : (http://ow.ly/NXoIO) XylemTree.com
