Our boats are back on deck!
Our warfighters from deck and engineering departments conducted their first small boat operation since March of 2022. Now that we have our 7-meter RHIB back on board, our ship is one step closer to being back in the fight! 👊

Today, the crew of USS Iwo Jima celebrated the 248th birthday of the U.S. Navy. Thank you to the First Class Petty Officer Association and our supply department for putting on a great event!
Just as important as our physical health, we must also prioritize our mental health. The Secretary of the Navy implemented the Brandon Act which allows Sailors to seek help confidentially, for any reason, at anytime and in any environment.
Today we celebrated on USS Iwo Jima with insightful guest speakers, cultural food, and cake. We are proud to recognize and embrace our diverse heritage!
Another successful shipboard Health Promotions Fair on Thursday highlighting resources for IWO Sailors to support health and wellness, increase resiliency and be ready warfighters. Special thank you to our Deployed Resiliency Counselor (DRC), NEPMU 2 and NCMP Health Promotions teams, Wounded Warrior programs and the EIPC/Fleet and Family Services for your support onboard!
The boilers are lit! We are one step closer to a ready warship with ready war fighters. Completing our Light Off Assessment (LOA) is another check toward bringing the ship back to life!
Today we pinned anchors on USS Iwo Jima’s FY 2024 Chief Petty Officers. Welcome to the Chiefs Mess and congratulations.
Iwo Jima is excited to announce the immediate advancement of nine Sailors. These Sailors showed sustained superior performance and truly earned this advancement! Bravo Zulu shipmates!
A HUGE Bravo Zulu to our deck department who have worked tirelessly to get both anchors back on board! It is an amazing feat since both anchors weigh 40,000 lbs. Having our anchors back is one step closer to getting back out to sea!
This morning we recognized the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The observance keeps the tragic event in our minds and hearts. We will never forget.
Today, Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Reeves, Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Young and Lt. Cmdr. John Plant were pinned to the next pay grade. Congratulations shipmates on your well deserved promotions.

Today, Rear Adm. Benjamin Nicholson, Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 2, visited USS Iwo Jima to introduce himself to the crew and review the ship’s schedule.
USS Iwo Jima Air Department Sailors Aviation Boatswain's Mate 1st Class Jermain Compton (right) and Aviation Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Jeffrey Bidwell verify that profile, temperature, humidity, and salinity readings are suitable prior to the contractor laying our new flight deck non-skid. Properly applied non-skid equals resilient non-skid which Iwo Jima will need when we return to flight operations!

We are taking in approximately 340,000 gallons of F-76 DFM (Diesel Fuel Marine) during a refueling evolution moving us closer to the end of the CNO’s availability period. The refueling evolution is a 3-day process where a fuel barge is moored alongside us pumping fuel into our fueling stations.
This morning, our commanding officer set aside time for a cup of coffee and an open discussion with our crew. This weekly engagement is one way our leadership stays connected to our Sailors on the deckplates and ensures everyone has the opportunity to voice important feedback and ideas from the bottom to the top.
We hosted a Family Town Hall last night for our crew and families. Our Commanding Officer, Capt. Stephen Froehlich, Executive Officer, Capt. Brian Hamel and Command Master Chief Tom Mace led a great discussion about the ship’s schedule and Sailor readiness. Sailors also took the opportunity to meet and network with other families across the ship.
We recently conducted our semi-annual rescue boat deployment and Coxswain and Search and Rescue training in preparation for returning to sea. Our team continues to excel, and we even had a dolphin sighting! Great job shipmates!

Our Deck Department team recently went to the Underway Replenishment Team Trainer at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, and our Sailors operated flawlessly as rig captains, ensuring USS Iwo Jima is ready to return to sea and receive fuel and cargo underway. Hooyah Deck Department!
