During #SAS2022, Admiral Ron Piret was quoted along with Undersecretary Meredith Berger by National Defense Magazine from the #Arctic Panel!

“The Arctic is not ice free yet,” said Rear Adm. Ronald J. Piret, commander of the U.S. Navy’s Naval #Meteorology and #Oceanography Command. “What we’re really talking about is a lower percentage” of ice, he said during a panel discussion on the Arctic later in the conference.

AG2 McKenzie from Operations Department displayed outstanding professionalism in the performance of his duties and was selected as Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s Sailor of the Week for the week of 05 – 11 MAR 2022. He produced and disseminated 67 submarine forecasts and movement messages ensuring safety of navigation and mission success throughout Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s area of responsibility. Additionally, as the BRAVO Division Information Systems lead, he assisted Information Technology Department in the resolution of three trouble tickets improving operational readiness command-wide. Petty Officer McKenzie is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as “The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s Sailor of the Week.”

IT3 Wagner of the METOC Systems and Infrastructure Department, displayed outstanding professionalism in the performance of his duties and was selected as Fleet Weather Center Norfolk's Sailor of the Week for the week of 28FEB – 04MAR 2022. As Duty Tech U/I IT3 Wagner was responsible for ensuring update readiness on 20 NIPR and SIPR network assets enabling them to perform the critical 20H2 Windows security update. Additionally he was instrumental in the submission and tracking of 23 trouble tickets on quarantined assets that led to restoration of services to Fleet Weather Center Norfolk. Petty Officer Wagner is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as “The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk Sailor of the Week.”

🔱 Christened: 11 January 1942, by Eleanor Roosevelt (granddaughter of President)
🍾 Commissioned: 31 August 1942
📜 Decommissioned: 31 January 1946

📖Bio: She was named after the USC & GSS Pathfinder (1899-1941) that had surveyed and was lost in the Philippines at Corregidor. Pathfinder ended her service 23 December 1971 as she and the Coast and Geodetic Survey itself had come the National Ocean Survey under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

🚢Survey ships are maritime vessels, used to map contents of the ocean from the sea floor to its surface.

🗓 Each week, #NavalOceanography will feature its #USNavy survey ships from past to present.

AG2 Monique D. Dancel of the Operations Department displayed outstanding professionalism in the performance of her duties and was selected as Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s Sailor of the Week for the week of 19 – 25 FEB 2022. She produced and disseminated 45 submarine forecasts ensuring safety of navigation and mission success throughout Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s area of responsibility. She provided 20 hours of job specific training resulting in three qualifications and increased watchbill flexibility. Additionally, as the Heritage Committee lead for Black History month, she created, scheduled, and provided all hands training on the accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen fostering inclusion and pride amongst the ranks. Petty Officer Dancel is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as “The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s Sailor of the Week.”

Petty Officer Chandler of the Operations Department displayed outstanding professionalism in the performance of his duties and was selected as Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s Sailor of the Week for the week of 12 – 18 FEB 2022. As Aviation Watch Supervisor, he led four Sailors in the production and dissemination of over 40 aviation forecasts providing safety of flight for 14 Naval Air Stations across three Commander, Naval Installation Commands. Additionally, as Training Petty Officer, he scheduled two qualification boards and led one METOC training topic enhancing the overall knowledge of DELTA division and Operations department readiness. Petty Officer Chandler is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as “The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s Sailor of the Week.”
