Congratulations! Aerographer’s Mate Third Class
Justin M. Taflinger of the Operations Department displayed outstanding professionalism in the performance of his duties and was selected as Fleet Weather Center Norfolk's Sailor of the Week for the week of 16 OCT – 22 OCT 2021. As Ladder Technician, he decoded 103 ship observations and transcribed 17 ship movement reports ensuring safety of navigation for naval assets operating within Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s area of responsibility. Facilitated 14 hours of Job Qualification Requirement training for under instruction Sailors to expedite division qualification processes and increase watch floor readiness. Additionally, he volunteered to moderate a focus group contributing to the command climate and health. AG3 Taflinger is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as, "The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s Sailor of the Week."

Petty Officer Wilkins from Operations Department displayed outstanding professionalism in the performance of her duties and was selected as Fleet Weather Center Norfolk's Sailor of the Week for the week of 9 OCT – 15 OCT 2021. She led four Sailors in the dissemination of 35 maritime forecasts and High Winds and Seas products supporting safety of navigation to assets operating within Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s area of responsibility. She facilitated eight hours of Job Qualification Requirement training for under instruction Forecast Duty Officers to expedite division qualifications and increase watch floor readiness. Congratulations to Quartermaster Second Class Shanice Baird Of the Admin Department who displayed outstanding professionalism in the performance of her duties and was selected as Fleet Weather Center Norfolk's Sailor of the Week for the week of 2 October 2021-8 October 2021. Petty Officer Baird completed 15 official correspondence documents, 4 designation letters and 10 serializations. Her dedication to mission readiness ensured the Administrative Office maintained a high level of support across the FWC-N domain. As the Awards Petty Officer, she prepared and routed 5 Good Conduct Medals, 5 Navy Achievement Medals, 3 Navy Commendation Medals, and a Letter of Commendation. Additionally, she streamlined the command's muster program resulting in the improved accuracy and accountability amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Petty Officer Baird is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as “The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk Sailor of the Week”.

QM3 Bonnie Garner of the Facilities Department displayed outstanding professionalism in the performance of her duties and was selected as Fleet Weather Center Norfolk's Sailor of the Week for the week of 27 September 2021 to 01 October 2021. Petty Officer Garner was instrumental in the command’s locker room refurbishment project - renovating over 1,000 square feet of command real estate to include deconstruction, painting, and waxing of various spaces. Her contributions directly led to fulfilling the Sailor-driven command beautification initiative, increasing Sailor morale and unit-wide ownership. Petty Officer Garner is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as “The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s Sailor of the Week.”

It is with a heavy heart that we inform the Fleet Weather Center Norfolk family that Mr. Patrick Dixon suddenly passed away last week. Mr. Dixon was a stalwart of the greater Norfolk Navy family, known by many, loved by all that knew him. He will be greatly missed! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time as we grieve alongside them.

To those who knew him, please consider writing in the comments a fond memory of your time with Mr. Dixon so that his family may read about the impact he had here at FWC-N and the great Naval Oceanographic community.

Congratulations to Petty Officer Taylor from METOC Systems and Infrastructure Department, who displayed outstanding professionalism in the performance of her duties and was selected as Fleet Weather Center Norfolk's Sailor of the Week for the week of 04SEP – 10SEP 2021. As Training Petty Officer, she executed six hours of instructor led training ensuring annual General Military Training requirements were met within N6 department. She completed four trouble tickets and individually tested 96 phone lines allowing the METOC Systems and Infrastructure Department to identify 12 open lines to be repurposed. Additionally, she completed Duty Technician Qualification leading to a higher degree of mission readiness at Fleet Weather Center Norfolk. Petty Officer Taylor is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as “The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk Sailor of the Week.”

During a September 2021 visit to Fleet Weather Center Aviation Detachment Germany and the 21st Operational Weather Squadron, Fleet Weather Center Norfolk Commanding Officer CAPT Erin Acosta had a chance to visit with AG3 Salaik Reaves, A1C Ruslan Rodionov, and A1C Patrick Meagher, who are augmenting the humanitarian mission Operation Allies Refuge (OAR) on Ramstein Air Base and Rhein Ordnance Barracks in Kaiserslautern, Germany. While visiting, CAPT Acosta discussed daily responsibilities of the three OAR augmentees, thanked them for their impactful service during a real-world humanitarian crisis, and presented a Fleet Weather Center Norfolk command coin to each of the service members.

As Assistant Hurricane Duty Officer, she completed the initial tropical cyclone warning for Tropical Depression NINE and generated four forecast products to ensure safety of navigation for assets operating within Fleet Weather Center Norfolk's area of responsibility. Additionally, she assisted the Aviation Watch Supervisor in preparing six Flight Weather Briefs and two Terminal Aerodrome Forecast for 14 Naval Air Stations resulting in 36 hours of mishap free flights. Airman Apprentice Phan is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as “The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk Sailor of the Week.”

She spearheaded the creation of a tracking system of all consumable orders either fulfilled, processing or awaiting delivery valued at $50,000; this database provides real-time data of consumables on hand and available to the command. Petty Officer Henderson is hereby commended on a job well done and is most deserving of being recognized as “The Fleet Weather Center Norfolk’s Sailor of the Week.”
