Thank you RTC Great Lakes, your leadership team, and the fantastic RDCs and instructors for allowing me to join you last week. Forty eight graduations per year — nearly one thousand new Sailors a pop. Unbelievable.

I gave a presentation last week on what’s going on in the Navy to the Navy’s newest Sailors and their Recruit Division Commanders. It’s basically about what to expect for those going to the fleet for the first time or those eventually going back. They’re ready!

Bumped into a bunch of old shipmates this week at Great Lakes. I was there for my first time as the “Reviewing Officer” to inspect and help graduate 913 brand new Sailors this week. To steal a line from Captain Kent Davis, “The Navy gets stronger every Thursday!”

Just a snapshot of your Navy at this moment, but let’s not forget the other ships, squadrons and other units currently deployed and serving in harms way.

Snapshot of our aircraft carrier force:

🔹 USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77): Deployed since spring, been in the fight. Doing a needed port call in the far east!
🔹 USS George Washington (CVN-73): Forward-deployed from Yokosuka, on station in the fight.
🔹 USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71): Just deployed and is transiting the Pacific. Fully ready to fight.
🔹 USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72): Heading home to San Diego after a deployment of more than 300 days where they fought and crushed it.
🔹 USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69): Training underway, likely to fight again as IKE has been known to do.

That’s about 30,000 warrior sailors when you count the accompanying destroyers. Standard day. Old pic.

NSA Mid-South took on 37 new Chief Petty Officers yesterday. I shared that the reason young Sailors are doing so well across the fleet—even in some pretty arduous situations—is because of a few thousand Chief Petty Officers who make it so. This is the way.

Met with my PERS-46 team today. What do they do? Per them, “We write orders to man the fleet with warfighters.” They also said, “We’re always hiring… as long as there’s funding!”
