Last Thursday, over 700 women from across Hampton Roads gathered for our annual Women United Fall Luncheon. It was a time of celebration to honor our 10 for 10 Class of 2023, a time to connect with philanthropic women with a passion for our community, and a time to hear three amazing Aspire participants share their journey and path to self-sufficiency. In just one hour, those in attendance raised over $970,000, giving women and children in South Hampton Roads a brighter future. Thank you to each of the women who have given so generously.

A special thank you to Dr. Winifred Bragg for sharing her words of encouragement and brightening the room with her energy to all in attendance.

Each year, Women United has the distinct pleasure to recognize 10 local female leaders and philanthropists to join the Women United class of 10 for 10. By stretching their giving through investing $10,000 in our endowment fund, their generosity is helping to transform our community and invest in lasting change. Our Mobility-Mentoring programs, Aspire and Strive, are funded by our endowment which is the largest of its kind in the country!

We are happy to welcome Gary Ryan, to the 2023 Class of 10 for 10!

Now in her fifth year at the helm of Virginia MOCA, Gary works closely with the Board of Trustees and is responsible for leading the museum’s mission fulfillment and strategic vision. Joining Virginia MOCA in 2019, Gary has more than twenty years of business experience, including leading strategic initiatives and business development at Unilever, Time Inc., the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Most recently, she served as the Director of Development at the Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, NY, where she also assumed the role of Interim Executive Director. A Norfolk-native and Norfolk Academy graduate, Ms. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College and a Master of Business Administration degree from the J.L. Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University. She currently serves on the Board of the ViBe Creative District and on the EVMS Public Art Committee, is a member of the Civic Leadership Institute Class of 2021 and a 2022 Inside Business Women in Business honoree.
