THANK YOU, NORFOLK!

What an incredible day!

On Saturday, August 29, 2026 we had the honor of raising the final truss on the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department’s new fire station and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate this milestone with our community.

On behalf of the entire Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department, we want to sincerely thank everyone who came out, supported us, encouraged us, and helped make this day so special. Seeing our members, families, friends, town officials, and community supporters gathered together to celebrate was truly meaningful to us.

We are especially grateful to the Town of Norfolk, Board of Selectmen’s Office, Building Committee, contractors, project team, and everyone whose hard work and dedication has brought this project to this point. And, of course, we are incredibly grateful to the people of Norfolk who have continued to stand behind this volunteer fire department throughout our entire journey.

The final truss is now in place, and we are one step closer to calling this home.

This building represents so much more than walls, bays, and a roof. It represents the commitment of this community to its volunteer firefighters and to providing the resources necessary to protect Norfolk for generations to come.

There is still plenty of work ahead, but every milestone brings us closer to the day we can move our apparatus into our new home.

Thank you, Norfolk, for believing in us, supporting us, and helping make this possible. We are incredibly appreciative of each and every person who has played a part in getting us here.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Pete Marchi, veteran member of the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department.

Pete joined NVFD in 1983 after previously serving with the Winsted Fire Department’s Union Hose Company. He was a skilled and competent pump operator, the usual pitcher for the department softball team, and always there whenever we had a building project underway.

Pete gave a great deal of his time and talent to this department, and he will be missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing him and working alongside him.

There will be a private service and burial for family members. Please keep Pete’s family and all those who knew him in your thoughts.

What an amazing Weekend in Norfolk!

The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department had a fantastic time spending the weekend with our community. From the bounce house and free popcorn to our junior firefighter hose challenge, firefighter helmets, and NVFD swag, it was wonderful seeing so many smiling faces and meeting friends old and new.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, and a special thank you to the WIN Committee for organizing an outstanding event and inviting us to participate. We are grateful for the continued support of our community and are proud to serve the Town of Norfolk.

Thank You, DripDrop & NVFC!

The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department is grateful to DripDrop and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) for selecting us as a recipient of the 2026 DripDrop Hydration Giveback Campaign.

Thanks to their generosity, our department received 200 DripDrop hydration packets to help keep our firefighters hydrated during training, emergency responses, brush fires, and long incidents. Staying hydrated helps keep our crews healthy, safe, and ready to serve our community.

One of our volunteer firefighters needs your help. Many in our community know Lt. Brad Funk as someone who has always been there when others needed help. For nearly 11 years, Brad has proudly served as an interior firefighter with the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department, answering the call at all hours and dedicating countless hours to protecting our community.

Today, Brad and his family need our help.

Eighteen months ago, Brad underwent cervical neck fusion surgery after suffering a spinal fluid leak that caused severe neurological symptoms, including episodes of partial paralysis. While everyone hoped the surgery would lead to a full recovery, his medical journey has continued.

Just a few weeks ago, Brad underwent another major surgery. Unfortunately, complications have left him bedbound and unable to work. As the provider for his family and father of three children, this has created an enormous financial hardship. Between mounting medical expenses, everyday household bills, transportation to medical appointments, and the loss of income, the challenges have become overwhelming as Brad focuses on his recovery.

Those who know Brad know he has never hesitated to put others before himself. Now it’s our turn to stand beside him and his family during this incredibly difficult time.

While the chances are still very low, Litchfield County and Norfolk are currently under a Tornado Watch until 9 p.m. this evening. The next round of storms are working their way east from NY State and have potential for heavy rains, winds, and possible spin ups. Now is the time to watch the weather in your area over the next several hours.

Smoke Advisory for Norfolk and NWCT Residents

If you’re noticing a smoky smell or hazy conditions today, it’s likely due to wildfire smoke drifting into Connecticut from large fires burning to our north. These conditions can reduce air quality, especially for children, older adults, and anyone with asthma, COPD, or other respiratory conditions.

If you’re sensitive to poor air quality, consider limiting outdoor activities, keeping windows closed, and using air conditioning or an air purifier if available.

If you see or smell smoke and you’re unsure of its source, don’t assume it’s just wildfire smoke. If you have any doubt about whether it’s from a local fire, call 911 immediately so the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department can investigate. We’d rather check it out than miss a real emergency.

Despite the uncertain forecast, the weather turned out great and everyone had an amazing time. We truly appreciate the incredible community support that makes this event such a success year after year.
