HSC-2 took time to get together this week to celebrate Black History Month by hosting an African American Heritage celebration potluck. The observance of African American / Black History and Heritage provides increased cultural awareness and support for the U.S. Navy Sailors, and their families. The diversity community organized a potluck to bring delicious food and desserts to feed the Sailors and Inspire Change, which speaks to the Navy’s history of being able to embrace and affect change by fostering an environment of equality!

Norfolk sailor recounts moment he saved woman drowning
HSC-2 is Proud to share WTKR , our very own Fleet Angel AZ2 Varnadore for his actions taken to save a woman from drowning in November!
AZ3 Buddy Varnadore was fishing with his friends at JEB Little Creek in November, when he heard a splash. Witnesses say Varnadore didn't hesitate to put his own life on the line to save another.

HSC-2 recognizes community outreach this holiday season!
Our very own LCDR Navarre joined others from Hampton Roads and volunteered time with the Pilots for Kids Organization, which is an international non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping hospitalized children. The primary activity is visiting with and distributing toys to hospitalized children. Visits occur throughout the year, the majority of the visits are during the December holidays.
“It always brings a sense of joy to me that we’re able to put smiles on children’s faces, especially during the holiday season!” LCDR Navarre.

Fleet Angel family was able to get together and visit with Santa at the HSC-2 Childrens Christmas Party!
Kids were able to watch Santa arrive in an MH-60 and get a chance to tell him what they are wishing for for Christmas.
Thanks to the HSC-2 First Class Petty officers Association for organizing the event for the kids!

Over two hours Saturday morning, Santa Claus traveled across Hampton Roads in aboard an MH-60S Navy helicopter, waving to delighted families below.

(31 Oct) HSC-2's First Class Petty Officer Association claimed victory over Chief Petty Officer Association in the first annual HSC-2 Kickball Challenge cup!
FCPOA jumped to an early lead and despite a late inning rally the CPOA was bested 7-4.

Good luck to our Fleet Angels!
This morning, HSC-2 FRAC Students carried The Honor Log in support of the Carry On Project.
Students worked together, in teams of 6, to carry this 700 pound log 100 yards at a time for 1 mile! The Honor Log is hand crafted honoring first responders of 9/11 and other fallen military. The log is 7 feet long, the length of a casket. It requires 6 personnel to carry, symbolizing 6 pallbearers. The log is 22 inches in diameter, memoralizing the 22 veterans a day that commit su***de throughout our nation.
Today's event was dedicated in remembrance of HSC-8's LOOSEFOOT 616.

HSC-2 CNAL Search and Rescue Evaluation team recently traveled to San Diego to conduct its first Search and Rescue Evaluation under the guidance of the CNO Search and Rescue Model Manager. HSC-2 evaluated the SAR program at HSC-3 and is now designated as the primary search and rescue evaluation unit for east coast based HSC squadrons.

(17 May 2022) HSC-2 conducted an interoperability Search and Rescue (SAR) Exercise with the Coast Guard.``This annual search and rescue exercise allows us to join our DOD and Coast Guard counterparts in the evaluation of our ability to work together and respond to a real-world incident requiring joint service response”, said LT Geoffrey Fries, HSC-2 Lead for the exercise. “In today’s environment, situations like this with increasing levels of complexity, having a partner like the Coast Guard, with such specialized search and rescue knowledge and experience can save lives. The coordination shown between these agencies gives us all confidence in the event of a real world emergency. I have been thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and competence of the Coast Guard. We look forward to future operations between services.”
