Heads up, #NorfolkVA! There is a potential for another round of #snow this weekend. US National Weather Service Wakefield VA says it's too early to tell how much ❄️ we will get; but it's never too early to #GetPrepared. Find out how - https://norfolk.gov/1582/Winter-Weather

Still keeping a very close on the POTENTIAL for another winter storm Friday evening into Saturday. Still plenty of details to iron out at this point, but we are starting to hone in on areas east of Interstate 95 for the highest snow potential.

A Winter Storm WATCH has been issued for #NorfolkVA for Friday into Saturday morning. Significant accumulating snow ❄️ is looking likely across the area on Friday.
To #BePrepared for the #Cold 🥶, visit - https://www.norfolk.gov/1582/Winter-Weather

Bottom Line Up Front: A Winter Storm WATCH has been issued for SE VA/NE NC and the lower eastern shore of Virginia, including the Hampton Roads area for Friday into Saturday morning. Significant accumulating snow is looking likely across the area on Friday.

Snow will develop across the area tomorrow from midday through the evening rush tomorrow, in association with a strong cold frontal passage. Light snowfall totals will average around an inch across the area. The second, more significant period of snow, especially for the southern half of the area, comes Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. Now is the time to prepare, and re-schedule any planned travel. Plan for hazardous weather across the area for both the Thursday AND Friday afternoon commute!

Beginning January 11, 2022, the Norfolk Department of Public Health will be offering COVID-19 testing Saturdays – Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., by APPOINTMENT only. Testing will take place in a tent at the Military Circle Mall parking lot. The center will offer Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests—the most reliable form of testing for COVID-19.

Given the high demand for testing, the Community Testing Center will operate by appointments only and be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday thru Thursday. The Norfolk Health Department will place staff on site to assist individuals with lack of access to internet or who may require further assistance with registration. The testing facility will be closed on Fridays. To find an appointment, visit vase.vdh.virginia.gov/testingappointment. Enter zip code 23502.

Test results will be automatically sent via text or email message to individuals being tested, based on the information provided in the appointment system. PCR test results are usually available within a few days and are very effective in detecting an active COVID-19 infection, even if asymptomatic. These CTCs are coordinated by the State VDH office and will be operating in addition to existing Community Testing Events which have been locally coordinated and administered through local health departments and community partners.

Are you experiencing mild #COVID19 symptoms? A cough, sore throat, runny nose and/or body aches? Please avoid unnecessary trips to your local hospital emergency department. Local hospitals are getting overburdened with patients seeking emergency care for relatively mild COVID-19 infections.

If you are experiencing mild symptoms, visit https://bit.ly/330YWGi to find a testing location, call your primary care office or consider getting an at-home test from a local retailer.

People experiencing difficulty breathing, intense chest pain, severe weakness or an elevated temperature that persists for days should consider seeking emergency medical care.

Questions? Call the Norfolk COVID-19 Hotline at 757-683-2745.

For day 3 of VA #WWPW2021, here is an important home safety tip.

Check your carbon monoxide detector & replace 🔋 annually. The danger of CO poisoning is greater during the winter when doors and windows are closed, and fireplaces / gas heaters are in use.

It's Day 2 of VA #WWPW2021, #NorfolkVA, and today we want to make sure you know what makes a blizzard and what you should do if one occurs.

The US National Weather Service Wakefield VA states a blizzard consists of:
❄️Blowing Snow
🌬35 + Winds
🌫≤ 1/4 Mile Visibility
🕒For 3+ hours

During a blizzard, don't travel 🚫; however, if you must, make sure you have a winter survival kit.

Here are a few supplies your winter survival kit should have:
☑️Blankets/sleeping bags.
☑️Flashlight with extra batteries.
☑️First-aid kit.
☑️Knife.
☑️High-calorie, non-perishable food.
☑️Extra clothing to keep dry.

Comment below with what your winter survival kit has to help others be prepared.

Fun fact 🧐 Did you know that falling snow 🌨 isn't necessary for a blizzard? A blizzard that results from snow that has previously fallen is called a Ground Blizzard!

Heads up #NorfolkVA! The Norfolk Department of Emergency Preparedness & Response has an important message for you about tidal flooding this weekend! Due to a combination of #KingTides and prolonged onshore winds, we will see some minor to moderate tidal flooding Saturday and Sunday, peaking around 5.5' on Sunday at 10:40 am. To see what this looks like for your neighborhood, visit https://orf.maps.arcgis.com/apps/dashboards/1fd204f3515e40428e77eea7c659a0e1?fbclid=IwAR2neRH0MXCo_vmQ3RcJL2HzXiGmumw-wvrVk9YLYNUCb6m2AFciVXeKGD4 Once on the Titan map, enter 4.5' for the Water Level (to allow for conversion from MLLW to NAVD88 datums), then zoom in to your area(s) of interest! Dreams of a #father, inspire a sons reality! #NorfolkPD continues to highlight #HispanicHeritageMonth and recognize the accomplishments, culture and history of Hispanic communities and individuals; past and present. Meet #NorfolkPD Corporal L. A. Ibarra, a native of #Chinandega #Nicaragua. Ibarra and his family moved to Miami, Florida when he was just 2 years old. Inspired by his father’s old dream to become a police officer in Nicaragua, and an unforgettable ride-a-long with the Miami-Dade Police Department, Ibarra became a law enforcement officer. The 14 year veteran of #NPD wants #NorfolkVA residents to know that he is “approachable, “and wants their “feedback” to give the best customer service. Detailed to the First Patrol Division, Corporal Ibarra was featured in a happy ending story a few years ago on WAVY TV 10 when, a young woman he helped wanted to thank him for saving her life, by positively impacting her life! #PathForward The most unlikely #ChicagoBearsFan you’ll ever meet, Corporal Ibarra, also enjoys fishing and gardening!
