The Jacob Wolf House, located in Norfork, is a two-story dogtrot house built in 1829 by Jacob Wolf. It served as the first permanent courthouse for Izard County in Arkansas Territory and it’s part of Norfork’s Pioneer Days festival held on May 16-17. Be sure to stop by and experience what life was like during Arkansas’s Territorial days!

While visiting the historic site, remember to walk down the hill below the Wolf House and visit our restored 1832 John Wolf Cabin with newly installed modern exhibits telling the story of John Wolf and family! Great storytelling awaits you along with interactive audio making the cabin come alive! We are open Tuesday-Saturday, 8am-4:30pm.

Remember that the historic site is a very important cultural and historical resource. It is protected by law. Our sister agency the Arkansas Archeological Survey helps manage the cultural and historical inventory for its ongoing preservation. Metal detecting, digging, and/or surface hunting is strictly prohibited. The historic site has 24-7 panoramic view security cameras in place. Enjoy visiting the site and respect its value for promoting our educational mission.

Wishing Marlon Mowdy a wonderful retirement! Marlon is retiring on December 1st after a combined total of 29 years with Arkansas Parks Heritage and Tourism. He has most recently been in charge of the Jacob Wolf Historic Site and has taken that property to new heights of rehabilitation along with offering the public a thrilling interpretation of this most unique historic Arkansas site.

The National Park Service documented in 2013 via a yearlong resource study that the 1829 Jacob Wolf House is the last remaining two-story dog-trot public structure in the United States! The others during this survey were documented as inns, taverns, stagecoach stops, or homes. This is a very special place where every visitor can learn about the past for better understanding the future. Experiencing history where it happened!
