From our humble beginnings as a reading room possessing a mere 300 volumes in 1935, the Normal Public Library has developed into a vital and bustling community resource center with nearly 200,000 materials. As our library has grown, we have vastly expanded our collection to incorporate not only traditional printed materials but a wide variety of digital resources including e-books, audiobooks, MP3

s, and more! Our mission is to serve as a gateway to knowledge for the Town of Normal, providing attentive service, diverse programming, and support in the pursuit of lifelong learning to patrons of all ages.

Starting in 45 minutes at 5 pm in our parking lot! Come out and enjoy the official beginning of Summer Reading 2026!!

Please note: parking in the library lot itself is limited, but there is FREE parking in the College Ave Deck after 5pm!

Help us kick off Summer Reading 2026 with a joyful concert from Chicago family music favorites, Laura Doherty & the Heartbeats on Monday, June 1 at 5 pm!

Laura has performed at top family venues and festivals across the country, including Ravinia, Lollapalooza, Old Town School of Folk Music, SXSW and more. Her interactive shows feature catchy tunes, her adorable animal puppet characters Domingo the Flamingo and Jazzasaurus, and plenty of sing-along fun.

In addition to the concert, library staff will provide fun activities for all ages. Register for the summer reading program at the event!

Bay Area Mexicana will be on-site with their food truck if you want to purchase dinner.

This event is made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Normal Public Library Foundation.

Starting TODAY, readers of all ages are invited to participate in our annual Summer Reading Challenge to earn prizes, have fun, and celebrate the joy of reading!

The goal is simple: read every day. Read anything from magazines to books to cereal boxes. All reading counts, including audiobooks and e-books!

Track your reading on Beanstack or with a paper log. You can use the Beanstack site or download the app for your mobile device. Paper logs are available at the service desks or can be printed from our website. Reading counts towards the challenge beginning today, June 1.

Earn badges and Book Bucks! This year, all ages earn Book Bucks as they read throughout the summer, including teens and adults. Then, trade in those Book Bucks for prizes, coupons, and more!
