At Normandy Village, we take pride in preserving and maintaining all our old and original infrastructure. Sometimes, though, it's time to replace the old with the new. So, thanks to this 95-year-old kitchen door for its many years of service, and welcome to our new, secure, energy-efficient door, painted (of course) Normandy Village Blue!

Here at Normandy Village, we've planted, watered, and tended to twenty-four trees over the past three years. This reminds us of a line from the novel "The Overstory" by Richard Powers:

HERE IT COMES! Please come to Normandy Village soon to enjoy the arrival of spring. In addition to appreciating hundreds of resident perennial flowers like these early daffodils, we're preparing to plant new flowers, shrubs, and trees along the promenade. This promenade landscape renewal is made possible through a gift from Shirley Mae Hickox Hile.

Here's what's happening at Normandy Village in November:

Join us on November 2nd at Normandy Village located in Normal, Illinois for this cozy lovingkindness meditation retreat. Together we will explore the profound yet simple practices of the Brahma Viharas that help us remember our own hearts incredible ability to feel and show love.

Within the Theravada Buddhist tradition, lovingkindness (metta) practice belongs to the family of "heart practices/qualities" known as the Brahma Viharas. These four ‘boundless qualities’ of the heart are – lovingkindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity; and they guide practitioners toward cultivating a wholesome and compassionate mindset.
To help provide a more comfortable meeting space for everyone, we are capping attendance for this retreat at 5 participants. A waitlist will be offered if needed.

This retreat is open to both new and experienced meditators and will include instructions for sitting and walking meditation practice, Q&A, and discussion about our experiences with the practices.
