In celebration of Library Card Sign-Up Month, throughout September, tap your library card with the NEW Ride Sticker from Normal Public Library (NPL) or Bloomington Public Library (BPL) to ride Connect Transit FREE!

A Ride Sticker is required to ride free during this promotion.
This promotion also includes:
--- Connect Mobility – Transportation for individuals whose disabilities prevent them from using fixed-route buses.
--- Connect FLEX – The on-demand, shared-ride service serving southwest Bloomington.

How It Works:
--- Visit either library to get your FREE Ride Sticker.
--- Each time you ride in September, simply tap your library card with the Ride Sticker to board for free starting September 1.

Each eligible school-aged child will receive a one-time benefit of $120.

Most eligible families will receive benefits automatically, but some households may still need to apply.

We’re excited to announce the second year of the WBRP’s Healthy Eating Program! 🎉

We are now accepting applications from families interested in participating in this year’s program.
Through the Healthy Eating Program, we aim to increase access to fresh, nutritious, and locally sourced foods for families on the West Side of Bloomington, Illinois.

Here’s what families can expect:
🥕 Grocery boxes twice a month
🌱 Partnerships with local farmers, growers, and fresh markets
🛍️ FREE fresh grocery boxes for participating families
🍎 A variety of fresh and locally sourced foods, which may include:
• Fresh fruits & vegetables
• Fresh herbs
• Local honey
• Freshly squeezed juice
• Tea
• Fresh/frozen locally sourced meat

Our goal is simple: to make healthy, fresh food more accessible to families in our community while supporting local farmers and food producers. 💚

**FOOD REPLACEMENT PROGRAM — STARTING TOMORROW!**

Were you a Normal Township resident affected by the August 13–17 power outage?

Normal Township is offering grocery vouchers to help eligible residents replace food that was lost during the outage. 🛒

VOUCHER AMOUNTS
• Household of 1: **$100**
• Household of 2: **$200**
• Household of 3: **$300**
• Household of 4+: **$400**

🗓️ WHEN? August 20–31, OR until funds are depleted

What do I need to bring?
✅ Outage Verification Letter

✅ Identification (name, date of birth, and SSN)

🛒 **Vouchers are redeemable ONLY at Kroger on College Avenue.**

SNAP recipients! Important Info!

Food bought with SNAP, State Food, or Summer EBT benefits may be replaced if destroyed in a disaster. A disaster is a fire, flood, tornado, or other devastating event beyond the control of the unit.

Food reported destroyed in a disaster may be replaced if:
the Food Assistance unit member or approved representative signs and dates a request for replacement and the request is made within 10 calendar days upon discovery of the destroyed food due to a disaster; and the disaster is verified. The household member receiving the benefits must fill out form IL 444-1989.

Replacement of Food Due to Power Outage.
Food may be replaced due to a power outage of at least 4 hours.

The General Assistance and Assessors office of Normal Township will be closed today, Friday August 14th, due to power outage.

The ARC Activity & Recreation Center is OPEN with limited functioning (no network so classes and memberships cannot be processed) but we do have power. The ARC is open until 8pm tonight.

We will provide more updates this morning.

Update 5:30 p.m., Thurs., Aug. 13, 2026: Town crews will be working tonight until dark to clear downed trees where possible. In some cases, power lines are entwined with trees and remain blocking roads. These will remain until power crews indicate it is safe to remove them.

Please be patient. In some cases, crews have moved trees to the side to open roads. Crews will return to pick these up. The primary focus is making roads passable. Drive with caution if you must be out. Some roads remain blocked.

Uptown Normal is without power as are several neighborhoods. Power crews are aware and will be working to restore.

The following roads are either blocked or difficult to navigate: Beaufort, Broadway north of Virginia, Cherry west pf Linden, Fell Avenue, Adelaide at Major Street and south of Warriner, Linden Street, Jersey and Vernon Avenues, Maple Street, Archie Avenue and the Vernon and Beaufort intersection. Avoid these areas.

On Friday, Aug. 14, the Town intends to pick up waste and recycling as scheduled. Landscape waste and bulky item pick up is suspended so crews can focus on brush collection

Update 3:30 p.m. Town of Normal is aware numerous trees and power lines are down throughout the community. Please drive with caution. Do not drive thru flooded roadways. If you do not need to be out, stay home.

Several key roadways are blocked. Trucks are out working to clear roads.

Uptown Normal is without power. The following roads are blocked and difficult to navigate: Beaufort, Broadway, Fell, Adelaide south of Warriner, North Main, Linden Street, Jersey, College and Vernon Avenues. Avoid these areas.

Please stay off Constitution Trail .. many trees and power lines are down along the Trail as well.
