FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“You Don’t Owe Strangers a Response”

The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind parents that June is Internet Safety Month.

With summer break underway and children spending more time online, we, along with our partners at ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children), want to remind families of the importance of internet safety. Take time to talk with your children about the dangers that can exist online and remind them not to interact with people they do not know.

A simple but important message for children is: You Don’t Owe Strangers a Response. Stranger danger still exists today—it has simply become easier for predators to reach children through the internet, social media, gaming platforms, and messaging apps.

Please help us keep our children safe by having open conversations about online safety and encouraging responsible internet use.

We are also sharing information about an upcoming public webinar on June 23 at 2:00 PM. The webinar will focus on video games and your child, discussing potential risks, warning signs, and red flags that parents should be aware of. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend if possible.

The registration link can be found directly above the attached flyer.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our children safe. We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and happy summer!

It was a pleasure for NPFD to assist those in Echols and Brantley Countries by sending a pumper and personnel to assist in fighting the wildfires. Although the situation in these areas are not as serious, please continue to remember those who have lost so much in your prayers. Our folks witnessed firsthand so much devastation and sorrow. For all of those who have donated, organized and supported the efforts, thank you so much

🔥 Update: South Georgia Burn Restrictions Eased

Governor Kemp has issued an executive order easing outdoor burning restrictions in parts of South Georgia.

While this is a step in the right direction, burning is still restricted in 17 South Georgia counties, as shown on the map below. These areas continue to face extreme drought and elevated wildfire risk.

⚠️ What to know:
➡️ Some counties are now allowed to resume limited outdoor burning
➡️ Others remain under restrictions due to ongoing fire danger
➡️ Conditions can change quickly—always check before you burn

Even where restrictions have been eased, extreme caution is still critical. Dry conditions remain across much of the state, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

📲 Get the full details + see if your county is affected:

We appreciate everyone doing their part to help reduce wildfire risk across Georgia.

Fighting fire. Protecting forests. Serving Georgia.

After recent significant rain Governor Kemp has eased the burn ban for Colquitt and surrounding counties. However, the ban remains in effect for countries in south central and southeast Georgia. Although the ban has been lifted, NPFD request that everyone continue to use caution while conducting any type of outdoor burning due to the ongoing drought. It is a pleasure to serve our community and our hope is that you and yours will be safe.
