A few more pics from the Memorial Day program where every single name was read of each person in Oklahoma, that was lost from all wars! It took all day, lots of volunteers and just a little planning to pull this all together!

Thankful for a nice day for such a somber event! Make plans to attend next year - same day, time and place!!!

Memorial Day is the most expensive holiday. Not because of the price of gas, but because of the heroes lost so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

The Moore Memorial Day event will take place at 1900 SE 4th Street in Moore, with a weather backup location at The Station at Central Park, 700 S. Broadway. Organizers say the event will feature several distinguished speakers and tributes recognizing both military service and community sacrifice. The event starts at 10 in the morning.

In downtown Oklahoma City, a separate Memorial Day observance will be held at 2100 N. Lincoln Boulevard.

One of the most moving traditions of the weekend will begin Monday morning at 8 a.m., when members of the Marine Corps League host a public reading of the names of Oklahoma service members who died in wars across the nation’s history.

Meeting for detachment 559 was a success. Guests, old timers and associate members representing well.

The Marine Corps League was well represented today at Joint Sessions, Oklahoma Veterans Awareness day! Thank you to the Veterans council for recognizing well deserving veterans and supporters of veterans!

Although no one does what is done for the recognition, it sure feels good to be appreciated!!! Congratulations to all recipients today!

The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA) Cemetery Division will receive the remains of six unaccompanied veterans during a transport on Thursday, May 7, 2026. The event is part of the FOUND Project (Find Oklahoma’s Unclaimed National Defenders), a program to locate and inter veterans not claimed by family or representatives.

The remains will be escorted by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop F, Oklahoma Patriot Guard Riders, Combat Veterans MC (CVMA® Oklahoma Chapter 10-7), and Jamee Cassity, Director of Memorial Affairs. The remains will be transported to Seaman First Class Billy Turner Veterans Cemetery in Ardmore. A committal service with military honors will follow.

Governor Kevin Stitt will receive the ceremonial flag on behalf of the unaccompanied veterans.

The FOUND Project is a partnership between ODVA and funeral homes to identify cremated remains of veterans. Once service is verified, ODVA arranges burial through state veterans cemeteries.
The public and media are invited to attend the service at 12:30 p.m. on May 7, 2026, at Seaman First Class Billy Turner Veterans Cemetery, 1555 Myall Street, Ardmore, OK 73401.

This Memorial Day, Marine Corps League Sooner Detachment 559 invites our community to join us in honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.

We will be conducting a solemn reading of the names of the fallen, a powerful tribute to ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten. Each name represents a life of courage, commitment, and devotion to something greater than self.

We welcome the public to stand with us, reflect, and pay respect alongside fellow veterans, families, and community members by reading the names with us.

Your presence helps keep their memory alive.
