✨ WISH WEDNESDAY ✨

This week, we’re asking for some of those everyday essentials that make a BIG difference for the people we serve.

We could especially use:

🪒 Razors
🧴 Deodorant
🫧 Shampoo & conditioner
🚿 Body wash
🩹 Antibiotic ointment
🍪 Individually packaged snacks

These may seem like simple things, but they matter. Dignity can look like a hot shower, clean hair, fresh deodorant, and a snack in your pocket. ❤️

Every donation helps us keep these essentials available and gives us the ability to say YES when one of our neighbors asks for something they need.

🍳 We’re Hiring: Kitchen Coordinator

Food and Shelter is seeking a dependable, confident, and compassionate Kitchen Coordinator to lead our fast-paced shelter kitchen.

Schedule: Full-time or part-time available
Typical hours: 6:00 a.m.–1:30/2:00 p.m.
Compensation: Based on experience

We serve breakfast and lunch daily to individuals experiencing homelessness. Our kitchen has one additional staff member and relies heavily on the support of volunteers.

This is not a typical kitchen position. Our Kitchen Coordinator will:

• Prepare and serve breakfast and lunch
• Oversee daily kitchen operations, organization, and cleanliness
• Create flexible menus using donated items and Regional Food Bank products
• Assist with food ordering, inventory, and daily meal counts
• Pick up, transport, organize, and safely store community donations
• Build positive relationships with local donors and community partners
• Lead and work alongside volunteers with varying experience levels
• Follow all food-safety and sanitation standards
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful dining-room environment
• Communicate expectations and redirect challenging behavior calmly and professionally
• Work closely with other staff to ensure efficient meal service

The right candidate will be:

✅ Dependable, organized, flexible, and resourceful
✅ Comfortable in a busy and sometimes unpredictable environment
✅ Able to work independently and take ownership of kitchen operations
✅ Confident leading volunteers and managing large groups of people
✅ Compassionate while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
✅ Calm and professional during challenging situations
✅ Respectful toward individuals from all backgrounds and circumstances
✅ Able to safely lift and carry boxes of food and supplies
✅ Willing and able to pick up donations throughout the community

Food-service or commercial-kitchen experience is preferred. The selected candidate must obtain ServSafe certification. A valid driver’s license and safe driving record are required for donation pickups.

This position is ideal for someone who understands that feeding people is only part of the job. We need someone who can lead a kitchen, manage a crowd, support volunteers, represent Food and Shelter professionally, and serve others with both compassion and confidence.

We need the POWER TO SAY YES. 💚

Every day, people come to Food and Shelter asking for help that could change the direction of their lives.

A bus ticket to a verified home waiting for them.
A prescription refill they can’t afford.
A ride to a treatment center where a bed is available.

These may sound like small things—but they can be the difference between someone remaining homeless and someone finally having a way forward.

And right now, these are the things we are having to say no to.

Funding that once helped cover these critical needs is no longer available. The need didn’t disappear with the funding.

That’s why we’re asking you to invest in saying YES.

Yes to the bus ticket home.
Yes to the medication.
Yes to treatment.
Yes to the opportunity to move forward.

Your donation to The Power of Yes gives Food and Shelter the flexibility to meet real needs, in real time, for real people in our community.

Thank you for your support, your kind words, and for showing up for us and the work we do!

💚 Help give us the POWER TO SAY YES.

💙 15 Years of Cruising for a Cause! 🚗

We are incredibly grateful to the Canadian River Cruisers for their unwavering support of Food & Shelter. For the 15th year, they have come alongside our mission, and this year’s car show raised an incredible $8,000 to help us continue serving our neighbors experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.

The generosity, dedication, and community spirit shown by the Canadian River Cruisers year after year is truly inspiring. Because of supporters like you, we can continue providing meals, shelter, and critical services to those who need them most. We are honored to have shared this partnership for 15 wonderful years and look forward to many more.

To everyone who organized, volunteered, sponsored, attended, and donated—thank you for believing in our mission and helping us continue to say “yes” to our community. ❤️

One small clarification: When the Norman Transcript did their story, it was mentioned that the proceeds would benefit a veterans housing fund. While Food & Shelter does not have a veteran-specific fund, we are privileged to serve many veterans through McKown Village, our Day Shelter, and the Share Center. These funds will support all of the individuals and families we serve, including the many veterans who are part of our community.
