SOUTH METRO SWAT WINS STATE COMPETITION

The annual Oklahoma SWAT Competition, this year hosted by the Stillwater SWAT Team, with local, state, and federal SWAT Teams competing in multiple scenarios and events. Our team has won this 6 times now. South Metro SWAT has the largest Medic Element of any Team in the state. Which is why other local, state, and federal agencies lean on us for forward tactical medical support for High-Risk Warrant executions, SWAT deployments, and for training.

Here's a feel good Friday moment for you!

Excerpts from the narrative written by C Crew Battalion Chief Attaway.

“Station 6 was dispatched to an equine rescue on 5/7/2026. I added myself and eventually Squad-7 and Rescue-7 to the call. Both Engine companies were absolutely fantastic during this rescue. Captain Maddry and Captain Lechman are excellent Company Officers with highly trained and exemplary crews. These photos are in sequence from arrival to the eventual successful up-righting of the 20-year-old 4-legged rescuee. The horse had initially tumbled down a steep side of a pond. He was down approximately two hours prior to our arrival. A vet was on scene and FD showed up to a pretty dire situation due to the amount of time the horse was down. City of Norman Animal Welfare was able to provide us with two very helpful representatives.
The (horse’s) owner had a tractor on sight we were able to create a ramp on the side of the pond to get the horse to. The thought was to get him to flat ground to assist him better. Unfortunately, the horse was too exhausted and unable to use his hind quarters, and the tractor on-site was way too small to provide the assistance we needed. During this time, Cleveland County (District 2) was contacted (by Animal Welare and asked) to bring us a very large front end loader. ..The horse was so exhausted he began seizing... (and) the vet was afraid we were going to have to euthanize the animal. The family was very upset... The vet and I discussed our options and what the outcome would be if we actually got the horse to its feet ...we all prepared for one last Oohrah.....Miraculously, County showed up with a large front end loader and with great effort and a little prayer we got the horse up and was able to es**rt the ole boy to the horse-trailer to get him to the vet’s office.
This was a great team effort utilizing a variety of resources, and it took all of us working together to ensure such a successful and happy outcome.”

4/25 @ 12:56 PM: If you see a thunderstorm today, the greatest potential for the most intense tornadoes and largest hail will be across south central into southeast Oklahoma. However, it is important to note that large hail and intense tornadoes are possible farther northwest-–the chances just decrease with northwest extent.
