Cleveland County Commissioners Appoint Darrell Weaver as Next Cleveland County Sheriff

Today, Cleveland County Commissioners announced the appointment of Darrell Weaver of Moore as the next Cleveland County Sheriff. Weaver will take the oath of office on Monday, July 6th. He’s resigning his senate post on July 5th.

Commissioners Rusty Grissom, Rod Cleveland, and Jacob McHughes said they were honored to interview several highly qualified candidates and that Weaver’s 28 years of experience with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, including his final nine years serving as OBN Director, made him stand out.

For the past eight years, Weaver has continued serving Oklahoma in a policy role as a state senator. As Chair of the Public Safety Committee, he helped advance legislation supporting law enforcement, victims’ rights, and Oklahoma’s criminal justice system.

Weaver also brings valuable leadership and financial management experience, with a degree in accounting and years of experience overseeing a multimillion-dollar law enforcement budget.

Following the announcement, Weaver toured the new sheriff's office and greeted staff members and deputies throughout the building. He was accompanied by his wife and daughter.

Congratulations Commissioner Grissom!
Incumbent Rusty Grissom was reelected as the Cleveland County District 3 Commissioner Tuesday.
With 14 of 15 precincts reported as of 8:40 p.m., Grissom received 5,218 votes, according to unofficial election results from the Oklahoma Election Board. Nash received 2,368 votes.
Grissom, who first took office in January 2023, is a lifelong resident of Cleveland County and Noble. He and his family have owned Grissom Landscape Nursery since 1985.
His main goals as commissioner include saving taxpayer money, bringing or relocating businesses to Cleveland County and improving construction operational efficiencies.
He will be sworn in during a ceremony in January.

Today, June 16th, 2026, Commissioners Jacob McHughes - District 2 County Commissioner and Rusty Grissom, Cleveland County Commissioner - D3 joined community leaders, donors and leadership from Salvation Army to celebrate the groundbreaking of an expanded shelter and new services facility in Norman. The Cleveland County Commissioners helped make this expansion possible by allocating $500,000 in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to The Salvation Army of Cleveland County in 2023.

Noble Farm Market celebrates new season with county partnership
Cleveland County recently assumed operations of the Noble Farm Market, removing fiscal demands from community members. The county celebrated the expansion of the previous market’s resources with a ribbon cutting.
Cleveland County District 3 Commissioner Rusty Grissom and the Board of Commissioners allocated $100,000 of American Rescue Plan Act funding for venue improvements and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program services.
Grissom said the county is excited about establishing a permanent market in Noble.
“(Noble) had a market, but they were kind of struggling,” Grissom said. “We do social media, so we’re going to work hard promoting the market, all three markets. We have a really great market in Norman, they’ve been established for a while, and in Moore. Now this is our next step.”
Noble Mayor Phil Freeman said that before the county’s support, citizens’ donations funded a smaller, more temporary market solution.
“We partnered as a city with the county commissioners to purchase this pavilion to be able to expand the resources and be able to give more options for our citizens (such as) vegetables and meats,” Freeman said. “(It’s) also helping those who have SNAP benefits be able to have access to the farmers market too.”
