Jesus said in Matthew 6:23, “But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.”
The word “evil” is translated from the Greek word “poneros.” It describes something vile, malignant, or spiritually harmful.
Jesus was warning us that when we continually allow vile things to enter through our eyes, those things do not merely affect what we see. They begin to fill our minds and influence our entire lives.
Darkness usually does not take control all at once. It enters through repeated exposure. A person looks at something once, then looks again. He thinks about it, revisits it in his imagination, and eventually what began as an image becomes a stronghold in his mind.
My friend, God did not create you to live under a shadow of fear, impurity, negativity, or tormenting thoughts.
If something you are watching is filling your mind with darkness, stop looking at it. Turn it off. Walk away. Take authority over what you permit to enter your eyes.
You are the guard of your eyes, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, you can keep your life filled with light.
