(ES): ¡Este verano, siete educadores del NASD participaron en el Taller de Ciencias de Verano del Centro de Educación Ambiental Riverbend en el Zoológico de Filadelfia! 🦒🔬🌿 A través de la galardonada Comunidad de Práctica STEM basada en la naturaleza de Riverbend, estos educadores exploraron la enseñanza de las ciencias basada en la indagación y alineada con los estándares STEELS, así como nuevas formas de conectar a los estudiantes con el mundo natural. ¡Estamos entusiasmados por ver las experiencias de aprendizaje dinámicas y prácticas que llevarán de vuelta a las aulas del NASD! 🌎💚

(EN): This summer, seven NASD educators participated in Riverbend Environmental Education Center’s Summer Science Workshop at the Philadelphia Zoo! 🦒🔬🌿 Through Riverbend’s award-winning Nature-Based STEM Community of Practice, these educators explored STEELS-aligned, inquiry-based science instruction and new ways to connect students with the natural world. We’re excited to see the engaging, hands-on learning experiences they bring back to NASD classrooms! 🌎💚

Get a head start on the school year by joining us for Kindergarten Orientation and/or Grades 1-4 Meet Your Teacher on August 27th. Kindergarten Orientation is from 9:30a.m. to 11:00a.m. and includes time to visit your child's classroom and meet their teacher as well as a building tour and scavenger hunt. Meet Your Teacher is an opportunity for students to meet their teacher(s), visit their classroom and drop off school supplies. All students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian the whole time they are at either event! Visit our school website for more details.

Second graders in Mrs. Krause’s class conducted research on the trees at Marshall Street. When the children discovered that the courtyard does not have a tree, they were determined to find the perfect specimen. They selected a Honey Locust tree for the space because it withstands air pollution, provides dappled shade, is drought tolerant, and gives both food and shelter to animals. 🌳🐦🐿️

This project was completed in collaboration with Riverbend Environmental Education Center’s Nature-Based STEM Community of Practice. Additionally, the tree was planted in honor of Mr. Jim Krombach, who taught Kindergarten here at Marshall Street for many years. We are grateful for the donation of the tree by Mr. Pete Corbo and its installation by Corbo Tree and Landscaping employees.
