Juneteenth marks the day when the last enslaved people in Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

It is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the generations who pushed our nation closer to its ideals.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, we honor that history and reflect on the ongoing work of ensuring that freedom and opportunity are within reach for everyone.

Happy Juneteenth!

A special shout out to Malcolm Kenyatta for serving as Chair Pro Tempore at last week’s MCDC Reorganization Meeting.

It was a long night, and Malcolm handled it with grace, humor, and heart. He kept everyone engaged, made us laugh, and reminded us that we’re all here because we care deeply about our communities and our future.

We’re grateful for Malcolm’s leadership and grateful to have him on the front lines of this fight.

Thank you, Malcolm!

Today is Flag Day.
Nearly 250 years ago, the first American flag was sewn right here in Philadelphia.

That flag has never belonged to one political party. It belongs to all Americans.

It has flown over our nation’s greatest achievements and through some of our most difficult moments.

Through it all, it has remained a symbol of the ideals we continue striving toward: freedom, democracy, and equal opportunity.

As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, Flag Day reminds us that our story is still being written—and that each of us has a role to play in shaping what comes next.

Happy Flag Day from Montgomery County Democrats.

Dear MCDC Community,

What an exciting day for Montgomery County Democrats!

We are thrilled to congratulate Commissioner Jamila Winder on her election as Vice Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.

Jamila has long been a leader who brings people together, and we could not be happier to see her take on this important statewide role.

Throughout her years of service—from the Norristown School Board to East Norriton Township Supervisor to the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners—Jamila has led with a rare combination of strength and compassion. She is someone who genuinely sees people, listens to their concerns, and never loses sight of the fact that public service is about improving lives.

Her leadership has helped move Montgomery County forward, but what makes Jamila special is not just what she accomplishes. It is how she accomplishes it. She brings people together, builds bridges, and approaches every challenge with both determination and kindness.

As one of Montgomery County’s own, we could not be prouder to see her take on this important statewide leadership role. Pennsylvania Democrats will be well served by her vision, her experience, and her unwavering commitment to our communities.

Congratulations, Jamila. We know you will continue to make Montgomery County and Pennsylvania proud.

In solidarity,
Jason Salus
MCDC Chair

Yesterday's meeting was a reminder of democracy at its best. Hundreds of committee members came together, made their voices heard, and helped shape the future of Montgomery County Democrats. The energy throughout the day reflected the passion, commitment, and optimism so many people have for this committee and our shared mission. Just as importantly, the results reflected the broad coalition that makes up our party, with members electing a leadership team that includes candidates from both slates. That outcome speaks to the strength of our organization and our ability to move forward together.

We also want to thank everyone who stepped forward to run for office. Reorganization meetings are an important part of our democratic process. They give members an opportunity to share their vision, contribute ideas, and help shape the future of our committee. We are grateful to every candidate who was willing to serve.

Whether you supported a candidate, ran for office, volunteered, or simply showed up and participated, you are an important part of this committee. The strength of Montgomery County Democrats has always come from the people willing to step up, get involved, and do the work.

One of the most valuable parts of this process was the opportunity for members to connect with one another. Throughout the campaign, we saw people build new relationships, have meaningful conversations, and share thoughtful ideas about how we can continue to strengthen Montgomery County Democrats. Those connections and ideas will continue to benefit our committee long after the votes have been counted.

As we move forward, our focus remains the same: building Democratic power in Montgomery County, supporting our candidates, engaging our communities, and standing up for the values we share. The work ahead is important, and it will take all of us working together to turn ideas into action, and action into results.

Many of our municipal committees and areas have also completed their reorganizations. We look forward to working alongside our municipal leaders, area leaders, committee people, and volunteers as we continue building strong local organizations across the county. Be on the lookout for upcoming trainings and opportunities to connect, learn, and collaborate.

Thank you for your commitment to Montgomery County Democrats. The campaign may be over, but the organizing continues. We have important work ahead, and we look forward to doing it together.

HE PROFITS. WE PAY.

Trump’s net worth has grown by billions since returning to office.

Meanwhile:

📈 Inflation: 4.2%
⛽ Gas costs up an estimated $510 since the start of the war
🛒 Grocery prices up 25.79% in the last year

For working families, these aren’t numbers on a chart. They’re higher bills, tighter budgets, and tougher choices.

The disconnect couldn’t be clearer.

A strong community looks out for one another.

Throughout June, Montgomery County Democrats will be collecting donations Valley Youth House, which supports young people transitioning out of foster care as they build independent futures.

Most-needed items include:

🧴 Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, deodorant, lotion, and other hygiene products

💇🏾 Hair care products for all hair types

👶 Baby hygiene items

🐱 Cat food and unscented litter

🎁 Gift cards (Target, Walmart, Amazon, and grocery stores)

Donations can be dropped off at the MCDC office throughout June.

Every donation helps provide stability, dignity, and support to young people as they navigate the transition to adulthood.

Thank you for helping us support our community. Because everyone deserves a strong foundation on which to build their future.

Today is Gun Violence Awareness Day.

With so much happening in the news every day, it can be easy to lose sight of the fact that gun violence continues to impact families and communities across our country. We cannot allow ourselves to become numb to it.

We are grateful for the work of CeaseFirePA and advocates across Pennsylvania who continue fighting for solutions that save lives.

Gun violence is not inevitable. Small, commonsense measures can make a difference, and every life saved matters.

Today, we remember those we’ve lost and stand with survivors.

Montgomery County knows what kind of leader Jamila Winder is.

We’ve seen her show up for our communities, lead with integrity, and work every day to make Montgomery County stronger. That’s why we’re excited to see her being considered for Vice Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.

Jamila’s leadership has already made a difference here at home, and we know the Pennsylvania Democratic Party will benefit from her voice, vision, and experience.
