Last week, our clients came together for a fun and inspiring group meeting centered around the theme, "When Life Gives You Lemons."

Together, we explored adaptive kitchen tools for measuring and safely cutting, helping participants build confidence and independence in the kitchen. We put those skills to use by making fresh lemonade, then gave our leftover lemon rinds a second life by creating a natural cleaning solution.

Beyond the hands-on activities, we had a meaningful conversation about how life's challenges can often be transformed into opportunities for growth, resilience, and positive solutions.

As always, the room was filled with laughter, encouragement, and the wonderful support our clients so freely share with one another. It was a great reminder that with the right tools, a positive outlook, and a caring community, we can all make something good out of life's lemons.

We had a rockin' good time at this week's group meeting as we celebrated International Rock Day!

We kicked off the afternoon by recognizing the anniversary of the iconic Live Aid Concert and reminiscing about the rock and roll bands that first inspired us. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane, filled with music, memories, and plenty of smiles.

We also reflected on the "rocks" in our own lives—the family members, friends, and loved ones who are always there to support us and who we can count on through life's challenges.

The fun continued with hands-on activities as participants painted rocks, created their own rock pets, and even cracked open geodes to discover the beautiful crystals hidden inside.

It was a day filled with creativity, conversation, laughter, and meaningful connections. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a memorable afternoon!

This week, MCAB clients and staff had the wonderful opportunity to attend the opening of the Wissahickon Trails Dodsworth Run Braille Trail.

Clients who read Braille enjoyed exploring the trail and reading signs about the birds, vegetation, and bat boxes throughout the park. Participants especially appreciated that the signs included full Braille descriptions rather than just brief summaries, making the experience more meaningful and accessible. Wissahickon Trails also incorporated a rope guide along the trail to help visitors navigate independently.

It was a beautiful day filled with learning, nature, and community. Congratulations to Bryn for creating this wonderful accessible trail as part of her Girl Scouts project!

Thank you to Adam Blum, Voter Engagement Specialist for Montgomery County, for joining our monthly meeting to discuss voting processes and rights for individuals who are visually impaired. His presentation sparked a meaningful conversation about clarifying voting procedures for our clients and the support available through Montgomery County Voter Services.

We wrapped up the meeting with a fun (and delicious!) “taste test voting” activity. Clients sampled two similar items—one in each hand—and “voted” for their favorite. The results are in:
🍫 Hershey’s Milk Chocolate beat Lindor Milk Chocolate
🥔 Herr’s Ripple Chips beat Utz Ripple Chips
🍪 Chips Ahoy beat Keebler Chocolate Chip Cookies
🍓 Giant Brand Strawberry Ice Cream beat Breyers Strawberry Ice Cream

There were plenty of laughs—and some surprise at the outcomes! Most importantly, the activity reinforced how important it is for all of us to use our voice and continue advocating for ourselves.
