This weekend, I was proud to join eight fellow delegates from the North Adams Democratic City Committee and many more from across the 1st Berkshire District, including Adams, Lanesborough, and Williamstown, at the Democratic State Convention in Worcester.

Over the past four years, I've had the privilege of watching North Adams' delegate participation grow from just three delegates to nine. That kind of growth doesn't happen by accident—it reflects the strength, enthusiasm, and culture of collaboration fostered by the North Adams Democratic City Committee and its leadership.

Democracy is strongest when more people are engaged, and it was inspiring to see so many residents from our region and leaders from across our Commonwealth stepping up to help shape the future of our party and our Commonwealth.

I’m honored to see Steeple City Social featured, and my business partner Meghan Daly and I highlighted in this story about how several newer brick-and-mortar businesses were born from the North Adams Farmers Market. It’s a testament to sustainable growth, community support, and a growing downtown scene that has a lot of great food and something for everyone to do.

The Farmers Market has become more than just a Saturday tradition. It's helped launch local entrepreneurs, strengthen our local economy, and bring more vibrancy to downtown North Adams.
And small businesses are not just economic engines. They are community anchors. They create jobs, activate downtowns, support local artists and makers, contribute to our local tax base, and help make our communities quality places where people want to live, stay, and invest. But too often, state policy is designed to prioritize larger cities and large corporate lobbies.

As your State Representative, I will actively champion the policies we need to better support rural and small-city entrepreneurship and small business by:

-expanding access to affordable small business financing,
-supporting downtown redevelopment and housing creation,
-investing in infrastructure and transportation,
-reducing unnecessary barriers for businesses to start,
-strengthening workforce development pipelines,
-fostering new business growth to help decrease our residential tax burden,
-and helping Main Street businesses compete in a changing economy.

Owners said the North Adams Farmers Market, which officially opened for the season on Saturday, let them test ideas, build customers and learn food service with lower risk.

Though the rain prevented North Adams from holding our annual Memorial Day Parade, something I always look forward to marching in as a North Adams City Councilor, our community still came together today for a meaningful ceremony at North Adams American Legion Post 125.

It was an honor to represent the City of North Adams alongside Mayor Jennifer Macksey and fellow Councilors Lisa Blackmer, Alexa Macdonald, Marie McCarron, Bryan Sapienza, and Lillian Zavatsky.

Today’s speakers reminded us of the immense sacrifice made by our fallen heroes so that future generations could live freer, safer, and fuller lives. Their courage and service built the foundation for the opportunities and freedoms we enjoy today.

I was especially moved by the chiming of the Honor Bell. The bell was struck seven times to symbolize the choice to serve, camaraderie, patriotism, respect, dignity, honor, and the value of a veteran’s life. Each toll marked a reflective stage in a soldier’s journey and served as a powerful reminder of the human cost of service.

We are living through a turbulent chapter in our nation’s story, and today was a reminder to pause with gratitude for those who came before us, fought for us, and made it possible for so many of us to pursue our own hopes and dreams and fight for our country in our own ways.

Today and every day, I remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

This week, the City of North Adams unveiled our Hometown Hero Banner Program, featuring 132 banners honoring veterans from across our community. It was inspiring to see this initiative come together through a true community collaboration, with banner brackets made by students at McCann Technical School and printing completed by a North Adams company, Becks Printing.

It was an honor to attend the unveiling and witness so many friends and colleagues proudly revealing banners honoring their ancestors and loved ones who served our country. I was also delighted to meet and shake the hand of North Adams’ oldest veteran, 108-year-old Carlo Domenichini, who served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps. What a remarkable moment!

A big thank you to Kurtis Durocher, our Director of Veterans Services, for organizing such an excellent event and meaningful initiative for our city. The banners will be in place for public viewing through Veterans Day. Check them out!

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to present to Greylock Together in Williamstown. I’m grateful to share values with this group, and it’s been an honor to stand beside them at protests, speak at their rallies, and welcome their organizers at Steeple City Social.

My campaign is focused on building a bright, successful, and affordable future for all residents of the 1st Berkshire District. That means expanding economic opportunity, focusing on affordability, and strengthening regional collaboration across our communities.

Barney Frank was an inspiration to me. I’m grateful for his service to Massachusetts and our country, as well as for his encouragement to be courageous in living openly and being myself. Rest in peace, Congressman.

The former congressman was politically engaged until the end.

Exciting news: I’ve officially qualified for the ballot in the September 1 Democratic Primary for State Representative in the 1st Berkshire District!

I submitted 422 certified signatures from across all 13 communities in the district, far exceeding the requirement to appear on the ballot. Meeting residents, local officials, and small business owners throughout the Northern Berkshires has been energizing — and we’re just getting started.

This campaign is about supporting working families, expanding economic opportunity, and making sure North County has a strong voice on Beacon Hill.

Now it’s time to build momentum:

May is Small Business Month and the kickoff to the outdoor season for the North Adams Farmers Market on Main Street. For me, that’s personal. Before opening Steeple City Social in downtown North Adams in 2025, my business partner and I operated a booth at the North Adams Farmers Market for two years, where we tested our business concept, honed our menu, built a customer base, and networked with the local small business community. That experience set us up for success in opening our brick-and-mortar storefront around the corner on Eagle Street.

The North Adams Farmers Market was a great way for us to get started, and we aren’t the only business that has leveraged the market to help incubate a business. Steeple City Social, Red Shirt Farm, Door Prize, and Hexagon Bagels all “graduated” from the North Adams Farmers Market in 2025 to open storefronts in North Adams and Lanesborough.

I believe small businesses are anchors of our local economies and engines for downtown revitalization. As State Representative, I will work tirelessly to address the needs of our small businesses and help build a stronger economy for all residents of the 1st Berkshire District.

This is great news!
