Last year, for the entire month of May, we served about 2,300 meals in our dining room. This year, in the first half of May we have distributed 3,740 meals from the big tent outside the kitchen! We are so grateful for every grant, every donation, every bit of help that is making it possible for us to provide meals to everyone who needs a meal! Thank you!

05/15/2020

We are looking forward to seeing everyone today- we are open from 11:30 until 1:00. Please wear a mask - or get one from us as soon as you arrive- thanks!!

People are starting to wonder, when will the BFP go back to serving hot meals in the dining room? We Don't Know. We will keep you posted... but we are waiting for guidance about how to keep our diners, our volunteers, our staff, and others who share the building with us SAFE and healthy. For now, we are going to continue with our "new normal" procedure of being open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, providing meals to take home and reheat from the tent in the parking lot. We expect we will do this through the end of May.

05/11/2020

Well, the rain and wind kept a few people home, but we had a pretty big day anyway... nearly 100 households, about 400 meals and over 800 pounds of groceries shared today! Thanks for wearing masks too! And please, remember, we really can't open much before our official opening time of 11:30 AM. We hate seeing you standing outside in the rain - but we also need to set up before we can open. We are open from 11:30 to 1 and we encourage you to try to come during those hours... THANK YOU!

05/10/2020

In anticipation of gradually having volunteers return to the BFP, we need a laser type forehead thermometer that volunteers can use to check their temperatures before logging in for a shift. (Staffceach have their own oral thermometers. ) We have one on order that is supposed to come in August(!) and another that says it will come in October(!). We would love to get one sooner. If you know of a place that has them in stock, please tell us ASAP. If you see one, buy it and we will reimburse you! Thanks!!

05/08/2020

Looks like it will be nice out through lunch time! We will be open from 11:30 until 1 and are looking forward to seeing everyone! Remember- the governor and the mayor have said you need a mask to be in places like the BFP ... please wear your masks! And we will be happy to provide one if you forget yours or don’t have one. And we are very sorry, but if you aren’t wearing a mask we can’t provide you with meals... so please take one and wear it while you’re with us! THANK YOU!!

It’s Giving Tuesday... we’ve been receiving much support- thank you! And for those interested in taking part in Giving Tuesday, one of our board members put this together for you! Thanks to all who have supported us already as well as those considering it today!!

05/04/2020

Thank you everyone who came to lunch today wearing a mask or taking one when offered. We miss your smiling faces but we know it’s best for everyone for all of us to wear masks. And it’s required in North Adams beginning Wednesday. In order to comply with the local requirement, we will not be able to have anyone in line without a mask. We will have masks available- please take one and wear it if you don’t already have a mask on when you arrive. THANK YOU! Together we can all stay safe and get this thing on to the next stage- we can’t wait for our dining room to be open again and for our volunteers to return!

05/01/2020

We look forward to seeing all of you today! We will go as quickly as we can to keep the line moving- but it looks like rain. We won’t close before you get your meals- don’t stand out in the rain if you don’t have to! By noon it’s usually slower, by 12:30 there’s usually no line... spread out!

Currently there are well over one hundred households relying on the BFP for their meals. We were open for distribution just MWF this entire month (a total of 13 days). We saw 1,189 people pick up meals for their families and neighbors and friends on those days. And we provided the northern Berkshire community with 7,368 meals. We are partnering with local restaurants thanks to a COVID Relief Fund grant - there's no way our tiny staff could do it alone! We can't wait to have our volunteer crews here cooking, but in the mean time we are so very lucky to have our restaurant partners! 7,368 meals in about 25 hours of distribution. That's about 300 meals an hour. We miss the visiting with our diners, the social aspect of our dining room. But right now we are just trying to make sure everyone has enough to eat. Thank you to everyone helping us to that!

We are so happy to see everybody again today! We will be open from 11:30 to 1:00.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for meal distribution!

04/14/2020

There are a lot of sandwiches and fruit out on the table please come take what you need!

04/13/2020

Despite the weather, despite the need to take the tent down for insurance reasons, 78 people picked up meals today... 328 prepared meals and food items for another 350 meals ... 678 meals! We had 7 new households today... not the best day to get to know us, but we are so glad they've found us! Thank you everyone... see you all on Wednesday - the tent will be back up... more grocery options will be available...

04/13/2020

We will be open to distribute meals today- but we will be trying to move people through as quickly as possible- we will ask how many people in your household and give you two meals per person- already bagged. We will give you a variety do hope there’s something for everyone- but we are not going to take time to ask which items you want for each person. Our goal today is to make sure you have enough meals and get you in and out of the tent quickly. We will open by 11:15 and will be open until 1. We look forward to seeing you!

04/11/2020

We will have a gluten free option on Monday. We haven’t been doing a great job of having enough gluten free options, but we will do better this week- be sure to let us know if you need gluten free option!!

04/11/2020

Well, that lull on Wednesday led to an unprecedented day on Friday! By noon we were already well over 200 meals served and Darlene Ellis was putting together a quick back up meal, we pulled some shelf stable prepared meals out and we used some gift cards to have people get sandwiches, salads and prepared meals at local grocery/convenience stores! In short, we got slammed on Friday! We apologize if you arrived after noon and didn’t have the usual bounty of selections... and we assure you we will have lots of meals on Monday! See you then.

04/09/2020

Although we aren’t open today, the usual sandwiches and pastries from Cumberland Farms are available under the ten. It’s self serve- please look carefully before touching and if you touch it please take it! Remember social distancing too
