The North Andover Historical Society was founded in 1913 and is dedicated to preserving our local heritage and bringing it to life through children’s programs, guided tours, lectures, workshops, exhibits, craft demonstrations, architectural walking tours and publications. Our historic properties include Johnson Cottage (1789), the Parson Barnard House (1715) and the Hay Scales Building (1833). For

This photograph of the 1936 flood in North Andover is especially interesting because the exact date and location was recorded on the back. This was a flood that no one who lived through it ever forgot. Do you remember your parents or grandparents telling you stories about it?

On June 12, 1776, our town met to determine if the Continental Congress should declare the Colonies Independent. This local vote gave Adams, Hancock and the Massachusetts Delegation the courage and authority to sign the Declaration of Independence. Join us for a moderated discussion, followed by an audience
involved reenactment of the meeting in 1776.

It feels like the beach at Steven's Pond has been around forever, and it practically has - this year is its 95th anniversary! The town report from 1931 details the purchase of land for the purpose of creating "a swimming place for young people." As the days begin to heat up, swimmers of all ages can take advantage of the pond's cool waters - assuming the algae cooperates this year🤞

Check out one of our newest digitized photographs! This is a stereoview of the Merrimack School and its students taken around 1870. Although they first appear identical, the two photographs are just slightly offset from each other. When viewed through a stereoscope (the device in the second photograph), the double image would appear in 3D!
