Hey y'all 👋🏿 the City of North Augusta will have its election on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. I am running for City Council and would love to have your support! I believe a councilman should have a heart and mind for the people and community. I was appointed to the Aiken County Planning Commission, where I've served for just under two years. It was an honor to be considered and ultimately appointed by County Councilman Sandy Haskell.

Since being on the commission, I've found it most rewarding to be a voice for the citizens when met with concerns for the community on the county level. As a collective we've made some very difficult decisions, one matter it took us 3, sessions to conclude because it was that important to the commission that all citizens had a the opportunity to effectively communicate their plight and receive the answers they needed.

I accepted a position with the Aiken County Public School District in the fall of 2021 as the facilitator for the Master Barbering program in its inaugural year at the Aiken County Career & Technology Center. It has been quite the journey and not an easy transition as I've been an entrepreneur and only worked for myself, with adults since adulthood. However, with an amazing support system in the Principal Kenneth Lott, the administration team and my colleagues we are headed into year 3, this July and will be graduating our first class of Master Barbers, May of 2024.

Most recently, I completed the North Augusta Department of Public Safety's Citizen Police Academy. A key point in my platform is to bridge the gap between the Police and the African American community. It was paramount that I took that course in order to...

A) Experience, first-hand exactly what it is Officers contend with daily.

B) Gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the facts, data, and statistics in our community.

C) Learn the intricacies of the law, particularly what warrants the use of deadly force.

D) Be qualified to actually have the conversation on both sides in order to communicate effectively what each side is saying, feeling, and possibly even fearing.

Everyone in pursuit of public office across the nation touts the same message(s), servant-leadership, transparency, communication, low(er) taxes, etc. If you check my voting history on the Planning Commission you'll find that my vote has always been within law and for the people, while teaching for the school district I pride myself in exposing my kids to not only the beautiful essence of life and the real world in business through barbering, but also the nuances of it all if not taken literally, and applied intentionally. I teach them character, temperance, self-discipline, and then Barbering. I am already having conversations about what it's going to take to bridge the gap between the police and the AA community with current and former officers and members of the community.

Lead is an action word. A leader should be seen and felt. A vote for Richard Adams for North Augusta City Council is a vote for action and compassion; a vote for community. I've built and maintained relationships on BOTH sides of the aisle. This election, it is most important to look at the individual and vote for the person and not the party, character, not the color (Red and Blue), the life and not the letter. I welcome all questions, comments, and concerns.
