Good afternoon Aurora Township Residents:

For those of you in the unincorporated areas (you know who you are), the Highway Department will conduct the first of seven (!) monthly brush pick up events on Monday, April 27.

Notices were sent out with the guidelines for participation earlier this month, so check those out or visit the brush pick up page on our website (www.athd.org) for information.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office at 630-892-0246.

Have a great weekend!

Is this thing still on? Ahem...

Good evening Aurora Township Residents:

We finally have some weather to address together. Forecasts seem to favor measurable snow on elevated surfaces (lawns, vehicles, residences, etc) and not much accumulation on the streets themselves.

That being said...the roads are going to be slick for the commute on Monday morning. The Highway Department crew will be out around 4am to salt (and push snow if necessary).

City of Aurora crews will be out clearing the main roads after midnight.

Drive safe. Stay warm. Let me know if you have any questions.

Good afternoon Aurora Township Residents:

A quick reminder that our office will be closed on Monday, February 16, for President's Day.

Spoke to the weather people and ordered up some warmer weather to make up for the fact that the office is closed.

Enjoy the weekend!

Good afternoon Aurora Township!

After some mandated rest, the Township crews will be out this afternoon pushing snow and throwing more salt. You'll notice the roadways with the most traffic tend to be the "cleanest," so take it slow and steady in the neighborhoods and less-traveled roads.

Stay warm!

Happy New Year, Aurora Township!

I hope you had a safe, warm holiday. We seem to be heading into a little bit of a heat wave over the next week or so.

Once the asphalt plant opens up again on Monday, January 5, Aurora Township Highway Department crews will be out patching potholes.

We will also be out a couple of times in January to collect undecorated, real Christmas trees that you leave out by the right-of-way (not in the street). We cannot take plastic trees or real trees with ornaments and/or garland.

Give the office a call (630-892-0246) if you have any questions.

Have a great weekend!

Good evening Aurora Township Residents:

A quick note about the upcoming storm:

You may have noticed ATHD crews spreading salt on the roads in the unincorporated areas a bit ago. The first flurries should be in the area in around 10pm, but the main part of the snow event begins after midnight. Forecast calls for around 5" of snow on the ground by 9am.

ATHD crews will be back out on the unincorporated roads around 3am to clear the streets. No word yet from the City of Aurora's plans are for the main roads.

To avoid clearing the end of your driveway multiple times, please try to wait until the storm is over and crews have made a final widening pass before clearing out the end of the driveway.

As always, we appreciate your patience.

Stay warm!

Accumulating snow will spread across northern Illinois late this evening and overnight. A narrow band of locally heavier snow is expected to develop roughly around the I-88 corridor, where snowfall rates may exceed 1 inch per hour for several hours. Closer to the Wisconsin line and especially south of I-80, snowfall rates will quickly diminish. Most of the accumulating snow is expected to taper off by around sunrise.

Good morning Aurora Township Residents:

Just a quick note about the last few days...thank you for your patience as we fine tune our snow responses. I apologize for the less-than-ideal street conditions in the unincorporated areas on Tuesday morning. What was forecasted and then what arrived were off enough to make a bit of a dog's breakfast.

We'll keep working at being better. As always, I appreciate the feedback already offered. If you have questions or concerns (or suggestions/complaints), don't hesitate to reach out.

Stay warm!

Good afternoon Aurora Township Residents:

A quick note about the snow response for today/tonight:

In the unincorporated areas, we have salted fairly heavily and anticipate that should address the snow fall through the end of the storm (around 1.5 inches total) around 10pm.

Unless the storm details change, ATHD crews will likely be out early Tuesday morning to address any residual issues.

As always, please be safe while driving.

Thank you.

Good evening Aurora Township residents:

Mother Nature seems to have won this round. The ATHD crew has fought valiantly, but we are bumping up against safe driving time limits.

Ideally, we would be leaving bare asphalt in the unincorporated areas, but the crew has been on the road since 8am this morning and the snow still has a little bit to go. The roads have a pretty heavy dose of salt and should be drivable until our crew completes their mandated rest period.

If you need to be out on the roads overnight tonight into Sunday morning, please be careful...slow and steady.

We should be back out in the unincorporated areas, cleaning up the remainder of the snow, by 8am Sunday morning.

Thank you for your patience.

11/29/2025

According to the latest forecast, we are about at the midpoint of the storm...snowfall-wise. Please keep off the roads if possible so ATHD crews and all other snow response crews can clear the roads as quickly and safely as possible.

Thank you.

Good afternoon Aurora Township Residents!

It appears the snow storm is coming for us after all.

Current forecasts seem to call for the heavy snowfall to begin around 4am and for the storm to stick around until Sunday morning. You will see a lot of the Aurora Township Highway Department crew over that time, and to help the team out...

For those of you in the unincorporated areas, please do your best to avoid parking anything in the street during and after the snow event. We have a couple of new drivers and I've asked them to be slow and steady while removing snow...and not having cars, trailers, other things in the streets will help them tremendously.

I will be monitoring the office phone and email if you have questions or concerns during/after the storm.

Stay warm and safe!

Good evening Aurora Township Residents:

Highway Department crew members are out clearing roads from the first wave of storms through the area. We will likely be out for awhile. Thank you to the residents who saw blockages and helped their neighbors out before we were even on the scene.

We already have a brush pick up session scheduled for the unincorporated areas on August 25th, so we won't do a special storm damage pick up this coming week for material that came down on private property. This gives you more time to bring this material out to the edge of the road (not in the road). We will relax brush pick up rules again this month, but please be mindful of the crew and bundle up what you can.

If you have questions about storm damage, call our office (630-892-0246).

All emergency response agencies thank you for your patience during these storms.
