As the Fourth of July signals the arrival of back-to-school ads and deals, School District 129 is here to ensure you have all the essential information for the upcoming school year.

Hello SD129 Families,

My name is Michael Smith, and it is my pleasure to serve as your new superintendent. As we approach the start of the coming school year, it is important to get off on the right foot early to set a positive tone. 🎒✨

By prioritizing attendance, children achieve better grades 📚, develop healthy life habits 🏃‍♂️, and feel more connected to their school communities 🤝. Please ensure that your child is in attendance on the first day to share in the excitement of the new school year! 🎉 As a reminder, first day details include:

📅 Monday, August 19th, 2024:

Elementary students: First full day, starting at 8:00 AM 🕗
Middle school students: First full day, starting at 8:45 AM (no late start) 🕘
West Aurora High School students:
Freshmen: Start at 7:35 AM 🕢
Sophomores through Seniors: Start at 9:55 AM 🕥
Regular dismissal for all 🏫

CHROMEBOOK (CB) SWAP INFO!

Are you new to District 129?  Welcome!

–  Come see the techs at the Chromebook table!  We will give you a Jewel CB and charger! 👩‍💻🔌

Are you a SD129 student who is just new to Jewel?  Did you bring your SD129 CB items from last year?

–  Bring your old CB / charger to the techs at the Chromebook table!  We will swap your old CB for a Jewel CB, and swap your old charger for a Jewel charger.  ↔️🔁🔄

–  Your charger MUST have a SD129 barcode on it for us to swap it out!  🦓

–  If you lost a charger, please see the techs.  Left it at home?  Bring it tomorrow / next week!

Are you a returning 7th or 8th grade Jewel student?  Do you have a working CB & charger?

–  You do NOT need to see the techs if you have a working Jewel CB & charger!  Keep it! 👍🙂

–  If your CB is NOT working, check in with the techs.  We’ll tell you what to do. 😟👩‍💻

Cooper is a 6 year old Golden Retriever.  He is reading Go, Dog, Go! by P.D. Eastman.  🚕🐕🚗

Cooper enjoys reading and snuggles with his human, Mrs. Grim, and her family.

* 6TH / 7TH / 8TH GRADE students _leaving the district_: return CB & charger on your last day at Jewel.

* 6TH / 7TH GRADE students _moving within district_: keep your CB & charger and bring to your new building in the fall. Your Jewel CB will be swapped for a same-model CB from your new school.

* 8TH GRADE students _going to West Aurora HS_: keep your CB & charger and bring to the high school in the fall. Your Jewel CB will be swapped out for a touchscreen CB the first few days of school.

* All other students: keep your CB & charger all summer. You will use your same device this fall.

If your CB needs repair (missing keys, screen damage, etc.) please bring it to the library to be swapped out _BEFORE_ the last day of school. Any devices needing repair over the summer will be repaired when students return to school in the fall.

Happy belated birthday to Chester! This beagle/hound mix celebrated his 5th birthday yesterday! 🎂🥳🎉

Chester likes to snuggle with his human, Ms. Lagger. He is reading The Missing Piece, by Shel Silverstein... which Chester thinks is funny because he himself is missing a back paw. 🐾
