Have you ever wondered how law enforcement works behind the scenes? A number of North Aurora and area residents got to learn all about it during the North Aurora Police Department’s 12-week Citizen Police Academy (CPA).

The CPA covered topics ranging from patrol operations and community policing to criminal investigations to traffic patrol to even more specialized topics like SWAT, gang, K9 (including visits and demonstrations from both Pawfficers Zelda and Atlas!), fi****ms, juvenile law, school and school resource officers. The CPA went over constitutional law and the judicial process as well as use of force and de-escalation training.

The class worked with multiple North Aurora Police Department officers across all divisions as well as a special visit from our friends at the North Aurora Fire Protection District. Congrats to all of the graduates!

If it's after hours and your water meter starts leaking, who are you gonna call? Not Ghostbusters!

In all seriousness, if you experience an after hours emergency involving your water meter or a sanitary sewer backup, please call our non-emergency Police Department number -- 630-897-8705 -- to report the incident prior to calling a plumber. Dispatch will be able to send our on-call Public Works team to check on the issue and in the case of a sanitary sewer backup determine if the issue is with the main sewer line or with the residence's line.

During regular hours (Monday-Friday from 8am-4:30pm) please give our Public Works Department a call at 331-385-6342!

Great job to the resident for calling for help for this little guy who got stuck in the storm drain, and kudos to our officers and Public Works team for getting him to safety! We love to see it! 🥳🦝

The North Aurora Police Department is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns this Labor Day. From Aug. 14 through the early morning hours of Sept. 8, officers will be out in force, focused on stopping impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

Driving under the influence — whether it’s alcohol, cannabis or any other impairing drug — is not just risky, it’s illegal. We’ll be patrolling with zero tolerance for impaired driving, because our goal is to protect the people of North Aurora.

Officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the “Click It or Ticket” initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle — front seat or back — should be properly buckled, every trip.

In addition to alcohol, officers will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by cannabis and other drugs. Messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” are part of a statewide education and enforcement effort aimed at saving lives.

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which administers the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign running across radio, TV and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.
