During Harold G. Fearn’s 18-year tenure (1954-1972), West Aurora School District made many new additions and improvements, a lot of these are still around today. The following schools and buildings were built during his tenure: Hope D. Wall, Washington, Jefferson, Smith, Schneider, McCleery, Hall, Goodwin, and the football stadium at West High. The administration office for West Aurora School District was moved to Downtown Aurora, which allowed the rapidly growing school district to expand and make more improvements for the students and community. Also, many school and district buildings were renovated or expanded. Harold G. Fearn was very dedicated to West Aurora and even developed relationships with other community programs, like the Fox Valley Park District.

✖️ **Break It Apart to Build It Up!** ✖️

Our 5th graders are putting their place value skills to work with **Multiplication Clusters!** 🔢✨ They’re learning to break apart double-digit multiplication problems into smaller, more manageable pieces—and then put those pieces back together to find the product.

It’s all about using what they know about **place value, multiplication, and smart strategies** to tackle bigger problems with confidence! 💪🧠

Way to break it down, 5th grade! 🎉

September is Attendance Awareness Month. We believe your student’s presence matters at school! Starting in kindergarten, missing 10% of school (or just 2 days every month) can make it harder to learn to read and impacts their academic success. By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school. Attending school is an important life skill that helps them do well in class and eventually the workplace. As we encourage our students to be present each day, be on the look out for your school’s attendance incentive this month!

Math Workshop was extra competitive today in Mrs. Knowles’ 1st grade class! 🎲✨

Our little mathematicians took on Roll & Record, turning addition into a full-on race to the top. The rules were simple:

Roll 2 dice 🎲🎲

Add the numbers together ➕

Record the sum on the chart 📝

The big question of the day: Which number is going to cross the finish line first?! 🏆

Between the high-fives, intense dice rolling, and cheering on numbers like 7 and 8, building math fluency has never looked so fun. Safe to say, everyone walked away a winner today! 🥳👇
