North Bay Village

North Bay Village North Bay Village is the Heart of the Bay. The Official web site of North Bay Village, Florida, is northbayvillage-fl.gov.

Prior to 1940, most of what is now North Bay Village lay beneath the waters of Biscayne Bay. The only dry land was Broadcast Key, a five-acre island from which pioneer radio station WIOD began broadcasting in 1926. Today, television station WSVN-TV maintains its headquarters at this same site, now joined with Treasure Island. In 1940, dredging and bulk-heading created North Bay Island. By 1941, pa

lm-lined streets had been laid out, and 12 homes had been built and occupied. Today, the Island has grown into a lush neighborhood of attractive single-family residences. During the mid-1940s dredging and filling created Harbor Island and Treasure Island. Harbor Island is composed primarily of multi-family buildings. Treasure Island whose street name was drawn from Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure novel Treasure Island, is a mixture of single family dwellings and multifamily dwellings. Treasure Island’s streets also took their names from the novel such as Cutlass, Buccaneer, Hispanola, and even Pirate’s Alley. North Bay Village was incorporated in 1945. Harbor Island and Treasure Islands were annexed several years later. Broadcast Key, also known as Cameo Island, was annexed in 1963. During its early years, North Bay Village was primarily a haven for winter residents. The Village became widely known for its popular restaurants and nightclubs, which attracted celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. Most of today’s residents live here year-round. North Bay Village continues to be home to several of South Florida’s most popular restaurants, as well as a variety of business enterprises, apartment buildings, condominiums and 376 single-family homes.

FERTILIZER-FREE SEASON:

Rainy Season is here — and that means it's time to protect Biscayne Bay! No fertilizer may seem like a small step, but it makes a big difference for our bay, our wildlife, and our island home.

Here's your Bay-Friendly Checklist:

🚫 Skip the Fertilizer – No nitrogen or phosphorus fertilizers from May 15 – Oct 31.
📏 Keep Your Distance – Maintain a 20-foot fertilizer-free zone near seawalls, canals, and storm drains.
🌧️ Watch the Weather – Never apply fertilizer before heavy rain or onto sidewalks and streets. Sweep up any spills.

Rain washes fertilizer into our canals and Biscayne Bay — fueling algae blooms and stressing seagrass. Seasonal County Fertilizer Rules are now in effect. We're the Healthy Heart of the Bay — let's protect it together.

North Bay Village Celebrates the Grand Opening of the Brent W. Latham Community Center:

Despite the rain, hundreds of North Bay Village residents flooded Galleon Street on Thursday, June 4 to celebrate the grand opening of the Brent W. Latham Community Center!

From kids to seniors, there was food, music, and activities for all to enjoy. This event felt like a true reflection of everything this center was built for: every generation, every passion, and every neighbor in NBV.

We’re so grateful to our 38 sponsors and 30+ vendors who made the evening possible, and deeply thankful to the incredible leaders who joined us to mark this milestone: Mayor Rachel Streitfeld, Vice Mayor Goran Cuk, Commissioners Doris Acosta, Richard Chervony, and Andy Daro, Mayor Emeritus Brent Latham, Miami-Dade County School Board Member, District 3, Joseph S. Geller, and Miami-Dade County Commissioner, District 4, Micky Steinberg and State Representative Fabian Basabe.

Stay tuned for updates on the official opening of the center’s doors - the best is yet to come!
