Thank you to Fall City Neighbors for spreading the word about Water Watcher Tags! Since publication, we’ve also arranged to have these available at the Fall City Fire Station.

AUGUST NEIGHBORS NOW AVAILABLE
Almost one-third of Fall City residents are Seniors. In this month’s issue we learn what getting older means for seniors and Millennials and how we can come together to support and learn from each other. We also discover how we can keep our children safe as they enjoy our rivers, lakes and pools this summer, and how the Fall City "girls of summer” broke barriers and opened new opportunities in women’s sports.

Download a copy of Neighbors or pick up one at the post office, library, and businesses around town.

I appreciated having the opportunity last night to present at the North Bend City Council’s July Workstudy. We discussed the option to form a Park and Recreation Service Area to support the construction and operation of a new regional pool. This is one way to allow cities within the service area to share resources and spread the cost out, making it more affordable for cities and taxpayers alike.

We love seeing the heroic action of this young lifeguard getting the attention it deserves!

Did you know that in most states open water lifeguards aren’t considered first responders, and therefore don’t have the same access to things like PTSD treatment or line of duty death benefits? There’s a bill making its way through Congress aiming to change that:

Even seasoned rescuers were awed by this 16-year-old lifeguard’s poise, confidence and skill as he maneuvered a young boy to safety amid thunderous waves in Santa Cruz.

Curious what the Snoqualmie Valley Aquatics Collaborative has been up to? At a recent meeting, partner agencies (North Bend, Snoqualmie, SVSD, Si View MPD and Fall City MPD) refined our list of shared premises. Although this can seem like busywork, developing a list of statements all agree on is a necessary foundation for future collaboration and compromise.

What do you think?

It has been so exciting to follow along with this dedicated group as they’ve counted down the days to opening this past year. This effort began almost two decades ago with one resident, a table at the Farmer’s Market, and a donation fishbowl that said, “Do you think Lopez Island needs a pool?” Many years later, this island with 3000 full-time residents is just a day away from achieving that dream.

Congrats, Friends of Lopez Island Pool, and we can’t wait to come visit this summer!

Open year-round, with two pools at two temperatures, the nonprofit Lopez Swim Center is a membership-based facility on Lopez Island, Washington. Daily, monthly, summer season, and annual memberships are available. See you at the Swim Center!
