Today is the anniversary of the tragedy on March 8th 2001, that all Firefighters fear when arriving on scene to a structure fire. William "Bill" A. Ellison III and his crew responded to a structure fire with victims trapped, they advanced in the building with Ellison on the nozzle pulling walls and knocking down the fire. Ellison and his crew realized conditions were worsening and agreed to leave. As they turned to exit Ellison fell through the first floor to the basement. When crews were finally able to reach Bill, he was sitting up still breathing but badly burned with second and third degree burns on 60% of his body. He was flown to a regional medical hospital where he was placed into intensive care. William "Bill" A. Ellison III passed away 12 days later on March 20th, 2001 from complications from his thermal burns.Ellison was a part-time firefighter with the Miami Township Fire Department and a full-time career firefighter with the Anderson Township Fire Department. Thank you for everything you've done, your hard work and the sacrifice you made to help anyone at any moment when the tones dropped. We pray for you, Anderson Township Fire Department, and most of all, your family. Thank you William "Bill" A. Ellison III.

MTFD hosted the swearing in ceremony for our newly hired District Captain Adam Shappelle and Full Time FF/Paramedic Sean Cress this week!

Captain Shappelle has been a great asset that has been added to our team. He brings an abundance of experience and knowledge that will make the Township and Villages a safer place. Welcome Captain Shappelle!

Sean Cress had a very exciting week, was offered a full time position and passed his National Registry Paramedic Certification test! Congratulations Sean!

LT Scott Dunigan transitioned to a Fire Marshal position that will better our inspection process, grow the Community Risk Reduction program and more! Welcome to your new role Fire Marshal Dunigan!

This week we had the opportunity to recognize the following individuals on a huge accomplishment of being promoted to full time FFs over the last several years. Tradition is something that runs deep in the fire service. A pinning ceremony is one of those traditions that allow the department, firefighter and their loved ones to celebrate being promoted. MTFD would like to thank The Board of Trustees and Township Administrator for allowing us to host this ceremony to recognize these accomplishments by the great individuals we have.
